Environment: Windows XP Professional, Russian Edition; ThunderBird 0.7
(Mozilla.org build).

When I tried to send mail I got the message that the message cannot be saved and
I should reconsider my temporary folder settings. The same was reproduced if I
even started a new letter and pressed 'Save' button on the toolbar.

The value of both TMP and TEMP variable in my system was: C:\Documents and
Settings\Сергей\Local Settings\Temp. Please note that username is written in
Russian (Cyrillic letters).

After I manually changed TMP environment variable to C:\Temp\Sergei the
Thunderbird saved the message successfully. The value of TEMP does not change
the behaviour.

I suppose it is Cyrillic letters in %TMP% that produce this bug.

Please try TB 0.7.1, there was some work for profiles with non-ascii chars.

The same for TB 0.7.1. The screenshot of error message is attached.

246794 seems to be similar.

I reproduce the bug this way:
1. Use account with cyrillic letters
2. Verify, that %TMP% contains cyrillic letter
3. Run Thunderbird
4. "Write" button
5. "Save" button in the Compose window

The same when trying to send.

I have the same problem with Thundebird 0.8 on Windows XP. My temp folder has
the name c:/.../Amaël John/.../Temp. TB asks to check temporary folder settings.
It seems to be linked to the "ë".

More informations. It is when I send an email only. For reading attachments
(which are copied in the same folder), everything is OK. But I cannot send an
email ! The message is : "Sending of message failed" / "Unable to open the
tenporary folder C:\DOCUME~1\AMA<<LJ~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\nsmail.html. Check your
'temporary directory' setting.". Now, the << (in AMA<<LJ~1) in the message
replaces the "ë", strange...

can you retest with latest build from the branch.  did this get fixed with
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=260034 ?
