I loved the "reveal location" button in the old (pre-0.8) download window. Could
you add this option for fresh downloads in the download manager, for instance
below "open"?
Reproducible: Always

You can right click on the download, and press on Open Containing Folder.

I know, but that just takes too long. Go figure, to immediately go to the
location of a new download, one has to
1. move the mouse to the bottom right of the screen
2. click on the "download complete" notification, woops, doesn't work, take
right hand off the mouse in order to press CTRL-Y (would be possible with one
hand if the "Y" key wouldn't be the *one* key that is the farest away from both
CTRL keys)
3. wait for the download manager to load (usually at this point it's already
getting on my nerves)
4. move the mouse to the position of the download
5. right click on the download
6. move the mouse to the "Open Containing Folder" item
7. click the "Open Containig" item
Even if one doesn't count the bugs that still need resolution (step 2 and 3),
this was *way* easier with the old download windows. Call me a nitpicker, but if
one downloads a lot of files to different folders, this quickly becomes a major
nuisance, insofar that I reverted to 0.7 on most of my machines. In its present
form, the download manager is nothing less than feature creep.
And I don't think I'm the only person feeling this way. In fact, I believe most
people who reacted on <A HREF="show_bug.cgi?id=233122">bug 233122</A> would be
satisfied if this (plus bugs <A HREF="show_bug.cgi?id=229062">229062</A> and <A
HREF="show_bug.cgi?id=251254">251254</A>) would be resolved.

Sorry for the inappropriate HTML tags. Second try:

Summary: Download manager should have "reveal location" option → Download manager items should have "reveal location" link

Bug 229062 is now fixed, so the link works. The functionality you're looking for
is rarely used by anyone. Clicking on the blue link and going to a context menu
is not too much of a hassle, IMO.

"Rarely used by anyone". How can you be so sure of that claim? Have you done any
polls or is it only "personal experience"? And why did the "reveal location"
button exist in the first place, if it was not desired by anyone anyway?
For your information, I'm downloading a lot of files, and I almost always use
"reveal location", simply because I don't always want to open the same type of
file with the same application (for certain file types, I regularly use up to
three different applications), and because mime settings tend to be very
volatile in windows anyway (epescially but not necesarrily if other people work
on your PC, if you work on other people's PC, or if you regularly install new
programs). I hate to lose precious seconds waiting for an undesired application
to start up (can take quite a while) and load the file, then find back the file
in order to open it in the appropriate application.
Additionally, the "reveal location" option is helpful to quickly assess the
collection of files in the directory to which you just added one.
I guess I can agree with you that in a perfect world, the "reveal location"
button should be redundant. However, last time I checked, that was not the world
I'm living in. I wouldn't be wasting my time writing up stuff like this if a
quick "reveal location" option wouldn't be important to me. Personally, I even
wouldn't mind like to have a direct "reveal location" link, and to move the
"open" option to the context menu, but I *can* understand you don't want to
implement *that* ;-)
