It could be really cool if it was possible to have a different mail notification sound for each folder, so that when I get mail that gets filtered into my Junk/Spam folder I'm gonna hear a sound of a wc flusing and when mail comes into my Mozilla folder I'm hearing a other sound...

Or maybe making sound a filter action would be another way to do that. Moving onto the help wanted list.

perhaps this solution could be that you could add sounds to filters???

I would be just happy just to be able to choose the sound that get's played for new mail notification. Instead of just defaulting to the system beep.

When someone will implement that, implement #11040 too.
I'd also be glad at least to be able to change the notification sound for new mails. If you're working at your machine you don't link the sound to new mails but to some other (perhaps windows related) issues. ;-) would be a great enhancement.
See also bug 118952, which is about filters rather than folders, and is/has-been assigned.

I wish there is an option to disable sound for chosen folders.

I'm voting for this bug, because I'd like this feature to be included in Thunderbird itself, but I just wanted to let people know that there's an add-on that recently appeared (at least, I've never seen it before) that serves the same purpose at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2610/

I don't think is something we should implement.
Turning off notifications per folder could be useful, but more than that seems too much.
