Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3 maybe it would be a good idea to have a static link to the current releases like <whatever>/releases/current/<AppName>-current.exe that redirects (throh http 302 or whatever the code is) to the real version with the correct filename. with this other sites dont have to update links everytime a new Version is released and all "customers" would allways get the current stable version. btw: i'm not shure if this is the correct category for this, but i hevent found a better one Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

I like this idea. Who makes these descisions and can set it up?
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Considering the number of FTP mirrors we have and the low probability of getting something consistent between them, probably nobody.
WONTFIX per comment 2.

fwiw, we do have a download redirector in the process of being set up that will be providing links like this. In fact, we already used it during the Firefox 1.0 release for Firefox.
so you can have a static link to the current nightly that changes every day http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-win32-installer.exe but not for the current release that changes every month or so? could you please rethink the issue, maybe you misunderstood my Request
For what's being asked for, this is actually in the wrong component. Let's let the FTP folks make the call on it. It doesn't need to be a 302 redirect, it just needs to be a symlink on the filesystem (just like the latest-trunk directory under nightly). Someone just needs to remember to reset the symlink every time we create a new release (which is going to be the hard part). In the long term (hopefully this next week) we will have download.mozilla.org functional, and it will have static links with 302 redirects to a semi-randomly-chosen mirror proportionately picked based on the amount of available bandwidth.
