I get an error when i try to downlod the first file from this page (PP
compiler). I have try to download this file with Internet Explorer and Firefox
0.93 it is ok.

ErrorMessage is:

C:\Docume~1\Andrea\Impost~1\Temp\s0grlsiu.zip could not be save, becausa the
source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the site http://ppcompiler.free.fr/download.php?lng=en
2. Click on the link PP, under the title PP Compiler
3. A windows will be open.
4. After 5 second a download should start, but I get an error.

Actual Results:  
I should closed the error dialog box.

Expected Results:  
The download should start

clicked that javascript-link, a pop-up come, and some seconds later a
downloadbox opened, with suggested name for the download, giving me the choice
to select a folder, change the name, all as usual.

Andrea, you also filed Bug 256987 for another problem hanging your browser.
Seems, there is something wrong with your installation, or localization.
Do you use extensions, or themes?
How did you install, ontop the old one, or did you deinstall the old mozilla
before installing the new one? Can you create a new profile, without extensions,
maybe switching to english language, and test the download?

Look if you have any errors reported in your Javascript Console.

this moorning I have uninstall mozilla, after i have reinstall mozilla, it work.
this moorning I can't download any file, i get always this error messages;

At moment i am not usign theme or extension, before i was using the Themes
Apollo, but at moment i am using Classi theme.

It is already in english.

I can confirm the bug. I get the same error message.

I have a normal installation without any extension, but my windows directories
are not on drive c: but on d:, might this be a problem?

at moment i have solved it, click with right mouse button and select "save link
target as", with left button i get the error messages.

Download fails if file name has a _ in it.

Downloads from financial institution fails.

Firefox truncates the name at the _ leaving off the critical .ofx extension.

I also get the error message instead of "download dialog" with my system:
o Mozilla 1.7.12 downloaded 26 Sep 2005
o all English
o Pinball theme
o Java disabled (as it has been since Mozilla 1.4 on my system)
o Lucent modem for dial-up internet
o Windows XP SP2 
o Windows XP firewall
o McAfee anti-virus
o Dell system with 768 mb RAM, Intel 600 mhz pIII

my problem file downloads fine with IE 6

for my case, go to:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/Get+AVG+FREE/lng/us/tpl/v5
scroll down to download link immediately underneath heading:
"AVG Free Edition installation files"
(points to: http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg70free_344a618.exe )
left click it,
immediately an error like this appears:
"Downloading c:\temp\random-stuff.exe
c:\temp\random-stuff.exe could not be saved, 
because the source file could not be read. 
Try again later, or contact the server administrator."
... Reading this bug report, I tried ...
Right click, "save link target as" worked OK
... So I ...
got same error after clean reboot
... So reading elsewhere I tried ...
changed the helper apps so exe file type now does nothing
(change exe type to eee file type)
got the same error
... So I ...
Uninstalled Mozilla,
deleted its folders
rebooted
reinstalled it
FOR THIS INSTALL I LEFT UNCHECKED THE "keep Mozilla in memory" BOX
now my test file downloads as expected (dialog box with save to disk option)
... So then I ...
remembered that I still had exe helper app set to "eee" file type,
so I set it back to exe, then tested the download again, it still worked OK

although I'm "out of the woods" (for now), I'm adding this info to help you find
the underlying problem

additional details I remembered just now:

o I did not have this problem with 1.7.11

o I just installed 1.7.12 and the problem began

o I also noticed that "R-click, save link target as" failed 
  (without error message) for the PDF documentation files listed 
  underneath the EXE file I gave in my test case.
  You can try the same PDF files titled:
  * AVG Free Edition (Reference Guide) OR
  * Firewall Settings for AVG Free (Installation Guide)
  (BOTH of these files now save correctly after Mozilla reinstall)
  
o really unusual, but I'll mention it anyway:
  when my system's focus is on the grisoft AVG page in Mozilla: 
  * CPU utilization goes to 100%, 
  * when I move the focus to a different window, the utilization 
    drops to 10% or less; 
  * Task Manager Processes view confirms that Mozilla.exe is hogging 
    the system; 
  * Task Manager Performance view shows most of the system CPU time is
    used in the kernel mode
  * memory commit charge stays constant (250 mb of 768 mb RAM);

Please check if deletion of the file .\components\compreg.dat in your installation directory helps or clicking the URL from Bug 180672. Looks like a duplicate of Bug 180672.

I am seeing this behavior with Seamonkey 1.0.  I never saw it in Mozilla (unfortunately, now that it's uninstalled, I'm not sure what version of Mozilla I had).  The problem occurs for me in downloading emailed .doc or .rtf files.  If I right-click and try "Save Link Target as..." it fails silently.  I haven't been able to find a work-around that works for me.

deleting compreg.dat did work for me.  Sorry I missed that suggestion my first time through.
