User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040902 Firefox/1.0 PR (NOT FINAL) StumbleUpon/1.995 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040902 Firefox/1.0 PR (NOT FINAL) StumbleUpon/1.995 The Software Updates dialog is modal or non modal depending on the location from which it was invoked. This is inconsistent and should be either one of them irrespective of from where it is invoked. Also when its modal ie when invoked from Tools --> Options --> Advanced, and then second firefox window is launched, the second window is unusable at one can not enter anything into it Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Goto Tools --> Options --> Advanced 2. Make Sure that FireFox and My Extensions Check Boxes are checked 3. Click on Check Now Button 4. The "Checking for Updates" Dialog box comes up. Its modal You can not keep working on firefox while this dialog is shown 5. Goto Tools--> Extensions 6. Click on Update Button. This time the Dialog box is not modal. I can play around with browser while its checking for updates. 7. Side effect of first case if you launch second firefox window, it is unusable till you dispose off the first "Update Firefox" dialog Actual Results: Update Firefox dialog should not be modal irrespective of where its launched from Expected Results: Update Firefox dialog is modal in some cases
Ok I got these in wrong order and dont know how to correct them. The correct way is : Actual Results: Update Firefox dialog is modal in some cases Expected Results: Update Firefox dialog should not be modal irrespective of where its launched from

this bug should change to RESOLVED, FIXED...I'm able to work within the browser either way (tool>options>advanced>update) or (tools>extensions>update) or (tools>check for update...) Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050522 Firefox/1.0+ ID:2005052219
Using the steps in comment #0 I am not able to reproduce with a recent trunk. This was probably fixed by the checkin for bug 274712 - New Options Dialog Resolving > WFM
