User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 I don't like to see Firefx becoming more and more mutilated to just behave like IE. - In bug 259362, for example there the feature to open the PageInfo-window for webpages with full-size java applets ore flash animations has been given up to just have a short cut like IE. Now, one function ine Firefox has 2 short cuts, the other none. - In bug 257411 comment #5 the feature to delete multiple history items is given up to just be like IE. bug 217472 comment #30. I guess there are much more such examples. I think a better solution would be to add a simple extension that applies such IE-behaviours. This extension may be included to Firefox download and activated by default. But advanced users could uninstall (or just dectivate) this extension. So there would be no need anymore to mutilate Firefox. Things that should be IE-like for users who switched from IE to Firefox could be changed in this extension, not in the Firefox-program anymore! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Are you a candidate to write such an extension ?
(In reply to comment #1) > Are you a candidate to write such an extension ? sorry, no. i can't do this. I see my tasks more in QA. :-)
this idea could be extended to such an etxnebsion for each os version: with such os-specific extensions it would be in general possible to make all version (windows, linux, ...) more consistent! maybe another extension that comes with the linux version applies some linux things. the idea is that that ALL firefox browser are behaving same, if these extensions are uninstalled/deactivated. But especially to avoid the problems described in comment #0 I really would like going this way, to introduce at least such an ie-extension... I really think that this is worth a discussion!
(In reply to comment #3) typing error: etxnebsion -> extension
If you or somebody else wants to make an extension to change behavior, go ahead, but this is INVALID.

(In reply to comment #5) > If you or somebody else wants to make an extension to change behavior, go ahead, > but this is INVALID. you have not read the comments. such an extension only makes sense if it comes with firefox installer!

Robert Parenton: the idea is to have firefox program conistent and do changes only in this extension!
Ben makes final decisions, and he or someone on his team made decisions on those bugs about the behavior he wants, probably with his input. INVALID

INVALID Yes, but these behaviours should be achieved by extension!!! This is the idea! I'm sure you have not understand the sense of this extensions I mean!

Summary: behave-like-IE extension to stop mutilation of Firefox-program → behave-like-IE extension as default, to stop mutilation of Firefox-program
Robert: This extension should not remove these behaviours, it should apply them!!! Maybe you now understand...
Please stop filing loosely-disguised advocacy bugs. Your signal to noise level is exceptionally low, and if you keep it up, you'll lose your bugzilla privs. As for this bug, you're missing the point, again, and I'm losing what little patience I have left. I've explained why we've made these decisions, and whether you like/agree with them, continuing to file new bugs with different approaches is not going to get you anywhere. And as a final note, I do understand, perfectly, what you're asking for here. We're not going to do this. End of story.

> I've explained why we've made these decisions, and > whether you like/agree with them As I have already explained: I don't want to revoke these decisions, I only would like to have them done by extension. But I don't want to argue anymore, you are to arrogant...
If I was arrogant I wouldn't bother responding to most of your comments. If you're wrong, I'll tell you that you're wrong, without sugar-coating it. Really, if there were to be a sane extension, it would be one that when installed, implemented the same keyboard shortcuts cross-platform. This would be far easier to build/maintain, and would only be needed by those who really want utterly identical apps cross-platform. Plus, it wouldn't bloat the installer for all of the people who either a) use the app on a single platform or b) want apps to behave like native apps on whatever platform they're using. Which based on feedback is a vast majority of users.
(In reply to comment #11) > Your signal to noise level > is exceptionally low, and if you keep it up, you'll lose your bugzilla privs. I already have submit many bugs that were not found by somebody else. This should be enough "signal"...
(In reply to comment #13) This the kind of discussion I mean. Its hard to get them out of you! :-)
mostly because the time I spend if I stop and explain every decision, in detail, I spend less time fixing the things that do need fixing. To present, in writing, a well reasoned argument against most bugs takes me anywhere from 15-30 minutes, if I'm trying to be professional and for-the-record. Maybe you should just hang out on IRC, bounce ideas off people there. Its an easier forum to bring stuff up, as opposed to the relative formality of a bug here.
