Mine java applets now work since I upgraded my blackdown java Java(TM) Plug-in Blackdown-1.4.2-01 File name: libjavaplugin_oji.so Blackdown Java-Linux Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.2 :) So I have no idea who's fault it was. -Gezim

I have a Talkback ID of TB4611062K for this crash. The one I duped to this a moment ago also has a Talkback ID (posted by me) and a link to an applet that will cause a crash. It was reported on Mac, this is on Linux, and I am on Windows. So I am going to go ahead and do some things to clean this up, and confirm it. Changing Hardware to All Changing OS to All Adding keywords: crash, talkbackid Modifying the summary Changing Product to Core Changing Component to Java:OJI Adding a URL Adding testcase-needed to the status whiteboard (any Java hackers out there?) Confirming CCing Myself And here are some new steps for reproduction Reproduces: Always Steps to reproduce: 1. Open http://www.j3d.org/examples/AlphaTest/AlphaTest.html 2. I'm not able to reproduce a crash on Windows at this URL. Instead I get an error in the Java Console: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/media/j3d/Alpha at AlphaTest.<init>(AlphaTest.java:103) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.DelegatingConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(Unknown Source) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Class.newInstance0(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Apparently this applet uses classes that are part of Sun's "Java 3D API" (http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/3D/), which isn't included with Sun's standard (J2SE) JREs. Tested on Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all the latest updates, with version 1.5.0_01 of Sun's J2SE JRE (also the latest version), using the latest Firefox nightly (2005-03-27-07-trunk). What Java distro are the people using who experience crashes?
OK, I _do_ get a crash with Firefox 2005-03-25-08-trunk, but not with either 2005-03-26-07-trunk or 2005-03-28-trunk. Whatever the problem was, it seems to have gotten fixed.
> or 2005-03-28-trunk I should have said "or 2005-03-27-07-trunk".
The crash happens on both Windows and Linux, but only with the 2005-03-25 trunk nighlies. Oddly, the crash doesn't happen with that nightly on OS X. 2005-03-24-07-trunk (Windows) no crash 2005-03-25-08-trunk (Windows) crash 2005-03-26-07-trunk (Windows) no crash 2005-03-24-10-trunk (Linux) no crash 2005-03-25-10-trunk (Linux) crash 2005-03-26-10-trunk (Linux) no crash 2005-03-24-07-trunk (Mac OS X) no crash 2005-03-24-08-trunk (Mac OS X) no crash 2005-03-24-08-trunk (Mac OS X) no crash Windows tests: Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all the latest updates, with version 1.5.0_01 of Sun's J2SE JRE (also the latest version) Linux tests: SuSE 9.2 with Sun's J2SE JRE 1.4.2_06 Mac OS X tests: OS X 10.3.8 with Java 1.4.2 Update 2 and 2005-02 security update and Java Embedding Plugin 0.9.0.
> 2005-03-24-08-trunk (Mac OS X) no crash Groan ... another typo. This should have been: "2005-03-25-08-trunk (Mac OS X) no crash"
Appears that the recent crashes reported in this bug were bug 287690...
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050329 Firefox/1.0+ Re-tested, whatever it was appears to be fixed. Since several other people have reported this to only have been a problem with the 25th's build (and it appears it is related to bug 287690) I am going to go ahead an resolve this WFM.
