Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Some mail messages appear on the screen with X-Mozilla-Status lines in the message body. This almost always happens when the previous line in the message body starts with "from " or "FROM " (matching the perl pattern m/^from /i) which leads me to believe that movemail is putting these status lines in the message even before mozilla gets to them. Normally, lines in the message body beginning with 'From ' (in this exact form) are "escaped" with ">" to distinguish these lines from the beginning of a message header, but mozilla doesn't seem to look only for the capital 'F' and lowercase 'rom '. This problem began to occur only after about March 2004, when (I believe) I installed Mozilla 1.6 or so. It persists in Mozilla 1.7.3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Send the following email message to a Mozilla movemail client: This is a test of the from feature FROM feature From feature fROM feature some feature 2. Retrieve new messages in the client and observe that the received message appears as folows both in the Inbox and on the screen: This is a test of the from feature X-Mozilla-Status: 8000 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 FROM feature X-Mozilla-Status: 8000 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 From feature fROM feature X-Mozilla-Status: 8000 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 some feature Notice that only the line beginning with 'From ' is immune from this behavior. Actual Results: See above Expected Results: The message body should not be altered with X-Mozilla-Status lines. This behavior is more than just annoying, since the added X-Mozilla-Status lines persist in the message if it is being forwarded or replied to. If you reply to this message, include the original message inline (without tabs or "> "s), and send it to yourself, more X-Mozilla-Status lines appear.
This is a duplicate of Bug 248241, which was fixed in Mozilla 1.8+ releases, and should be in the next Mozilla 1.7 release that includes regular fixes from the 1.7 branch. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 248121 ***
