User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 This happens for instance, when I tile windows vertically on a screen width a resolution of 1024x768. With an internet explorer window, and a firefox window both viewing the same web page, the firefox window will lose its vertical scrollbar, thereby causing some people to favor Internet Explorer's method! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Browse to any webpage, such as www.mozilla.org 2. Resize the window width to 640 pixels or less 3. Notice that the vertical scrollbar scrolls out of the window Actual Results: I could only scroll using the keyboard. Expected Results: Kept the scrollbar available until the window could not be resized any smaller. Using XP, via Remote Desktop Connection. Original desktop was 1400x1050 luna theme. Remote Desktop Connection removed theme support and resized desktop size to 1024x768. Remote Desktop Connection client was running under Knoppix. (Hopefully all this additional information is not relevant!)

wfm Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 I don't use "Remote Desktop Connection" (nor do I know what that means).
Do you run Firefox on remote PC? this bug might be related/same to bug 231571, which was duped to bug 206435.
Summary: vertical scrollbar scrolls out of the window when resizing window to around less than 640 pixels wide → vertical scrollbar disappears when resizing window, using Remote Desktop
Yes, Firefox was running on a remote PC, being accessed using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection software (which is included with Windows XP).
Does not happen when logged onto the console, so most likely to be Microsoft Remote Desktop specific. In my non-expert opinion, mostly likely the bug fix will fix bug 206435 also.
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. The latest beta releases can be obtained from: Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/ Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta1.html Seamonkey: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/
How to reproduce the problem in firefox version: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 I start up firefox on my windows machine, with a 1600x1200 display and maximize the window. Go to a page with a nice scrollbar, like www.nytimes.com. Leave the window maximized on the windows machine and remote desktop from an other machine, I've tried it from another windows, linux and mac, all have the same result, but make sure that the screen size of the remote desktop is smaller than the full resolution on the host machine, in my case, I log in at 1024x768. The scrollbars on firefox are gone, and resizing the window by hand, minimizing and re maximizing, etc, do nothing. The only solution is to close the browser and reopen it.
And in Firefox 1.5 beta 1 (as aksed by the auto-resolve mail) ? That version is about 1.5 years newer than the 1.0.* series.
Is it possible to change the status of this bug to CONFIRMED please? Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.
I had a problem with the scroll bars in beta2 (see bug 255210) I was not using remote desktop. and dit not see any improvements. (I went so far to go back to the latest stable version as I never got a scrollbar)

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1 Reproducible as described. I have 2 computers where this happens to me daily. A very annoying bug.
This bug is validated on the latest trunk from 2006-04-18. I will attach a screenshot.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 This bug has been around for years. People file bug reports on it, and they fade away due to lack of activity. Or the developers complain that they don't know RDP or use RDP and have no idea what the problem is. So the bug never goes away. It has been verified once again by me in v2.0.0.1 today exactly as described above. I once saw a comment on this bug reported in 2004 (or 2003?) where someone said it had to do with a java call "get client window size" that returns bogus information (too large of a window) when you're running Firefox under remote desktop.
(In reply to comment #13) > Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 > Firefox/2.0.0.1 > Note: I just noticed that in v2.0.0.1, the scrollbar behaves a little better; it doesn't disappear as readily before. Just playing around it looks like it has to do with the number of tabs you have open and how wide the web page content is. However, but the bug still exists; it is definitely related to problems such as those reported in bug 329699.
