User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7 Using Thunderbird 1.5 Beta 1 on Windows 2000. Window setup is 3-pane-view. Using IMAP to download mails from an Exchange server. I was looking at the window when some mails arrived. The new mail headers showed up correctly in the mail-list. Some mails were new ones, some were "Re: ...something". After a few moments suddenly the new mail subjects in the mail-list began changing: The "Re: "-part of the subjects were removed one after another (clearly visible and trackable from the first newly received mail to the last) from the front of the subject-line, leaving the subject like it has been a new mail not one replied to another one. When I click on such a "changed" to display it in the message area, the message area displays the subject correctly with "Re: ...something". The mail-list subject keeps displaying "...something" no matter what I do (Restarting, forcing downlodad from IMAP to local, ...) Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce:
Reporter, can you please try beta 2?
The bug disappeared after a few hours after restarting TB for a few times. I was unable to reproduce it after that, even with RC1. RC2 worked without errors altough RC1 didn't have the problem at that time anymore.
What are you meaning by RC2? The current versions of Thunderbird havn't reached Release Candidate yet. If you meant Beta 2 could you please mark this bug as INVALID Thanks!
Sorry, yes I meant Beta 2, my mistake. Marking as INVALID.

This happened again and was clearly visible in the Thunderbird Window. I saw in the folder overview that another folder (one for holding all mails from the CDT-mailinglist, cdt-dev@eclipse.org) has ~67 unread messages. Clicked on the folder and TB downloaded all new headers, most of them beginning with "Re: ...". Then TB continued to download each individual message (I set TB to hold them available offline) and each time a mail was downloaded, its "RE:"-prefix disappeared from the subjects-pane. I'll attach a screenshot.

I can confirm this bug on windows with thunderbird 1.5 and trunk. Thunderbird 1.0.7 does not have this bug. it's easy to reproduce this bug, all you need is a imap account 1. create an empty folder 2. mail a test email to your imap account, enter a subject line 3. reply to this email and let thunderbird save this outgoing message 4. move message from 2. to the empty folder created in the first step 5. move your reply message in step 3 to the same folder 6. select folder (you'll see 2 messages with different subjects) 7. select another folder 8. select again the folder with the 2 messages, now both messages have the same subject
did some more testing. It's enough just to move an email beginning with "Re:" in the subject to another folder. 1. move message to another folder 2. select the folder the message was moved to 3. select another folder 4. select again the folder from step 2 you'll see for a second the message highlighted (like unread) then the subject changes and looses the "Re:" and the message is marked as read this does not happen if you doubleclick in step 2 on the moved message.
I am having a similar issue. The mail subject line in the header pane does not match the preview pane. Opening the mail to a new window does not show the correct mail either. The mail subject is mismatched with the actual mail. I have reproduced this with Thunderbird 1.5 on Windows XP and Thunderbird 1.5 on Fedora Core 5 test 2. Both connect with using IMAP to Dovecot 1.0. Thunderbird 1.0.7 works fine on both platforms. Thanks
