It has known issues with Flash and with upcoming Firefox 1.5. There is an updated version on Adblock forum at http://aasted.org/adblock/viewtopic.php?t=2264 however note that original authors have not update extension. also as per comment on that thread one of the developer has gone and the remaining people do not have access to addons.mozilla.org. since Adblock is one of the most popular extension, situation should be resolved. i see 3 options. 1. remove Adblock from the listing. 2. give access to other authors to update it. 3. mark extension not compatible with Fx 1.5 and later. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: No step required to reproduce it.

Adblock 0.5.2.039 should be removed from a.m.o. (because no one ever took care of it in the past 3 years).Adblock Plus ( http://bene.sitesled.com/adblock.htm) is the extension you want

Peter, Adblock has just barely *existed* for three years. (Three years and a week, according to Henrik's site!) The last release was much more recent than that. The current situation is that rue is the only one who has the ability to upload new builds to UMO or new site content to adblock.mozdev.org, and he's been off IRC for a few months now, and he hasn't been working on Adblock for rather longer than that. I have been, but until he comes back (or option #2 is implemented) I can't do anything beyond what mcm already has in terms of releasing new 0.5-branch builds. I'd like to have 0.6 released before 2006, at which point this will be moot. Until then, if he's OK with it, (and #2 happens,) I'd be willing to take one of mcm's builds and refine a few of the grosser hacks and "bless" it for UMO, since that'd be quicker than backporting 0.6's fixes to 0.5.
(In reply to comment #1) > Adblock 0.5.2.039 should be removed from a.m.o. (because no one ever took care > of it in the past 3 years).Adblock Plus ( http://bene.sitesled.com/adblock.htm) > is the extension you want > I vote for what Peter has said, Adblock Plus needs to be the updated version works well here. Has extra needed features like white listing etc.

At the very least, regular Adblock should be disabled for Firefox 1.5. Updates have not been forthcoming and significant cracks are starting to appear (including conflicts with Java and Flash 8).
Per comment 4, I have reduced its compatibility to be only through 1.0.7 until we are able to resolve this issue. If you are unable to keep mozdev.org updated, please contact their admins.

I believe that at least something have to be done, either Adblock+ listed at a.m.o or a (semi)official update of Adblock. Adblcok is by far one of the most popular extensions of Firefox and I believe there will be people refusing to want to switch to 1.5 if they cannot get Adblock updated (or find Adblock+).
alanjstr, thank you for marking it not compatible with 1.5 and later. but as others have suggested there are still known issue with Fx 1.0.7 and Flash 8. so something more needs to be done. changing the bug summary from "Adblock 0.5.2.039 is buggy and does not work with Fx 1.5" to "Adblock 0.5.2.039 is buggy and needs update on a.m.o" can following be done? 1. remove adblock from a.m.o 2. ask Ben Karel to add new and updated Adblock. i am not sure how a.m.o works but only problem with above i see is that information about current Adblock listing (rating, comments, downaload numbers) will be lost. To me that is not a big deal.
Summary: Adblock 0.5.2.039 is buggy and does not work with Fx 1.5 → Adblock 0.5.2.039 is buggy and needs update on a.m.o
what effect does marking Adblock for Fx version 1.0.7 and less on a.m.o have? i was still offered Adblock on a.m.o when i visited it from Fx RC1, and i was able to install by clicking on "Install Now" link. i thought a.m.o restricts extensions that are offered to you based on your Firefox/Thunderbird/Mozilla version numbers. has this changed lately? or is this a bug?

T Antani, I do not believe it is strictly necessary for Adblock to be removed from a.mo -- their administrators should (?) be able to manually replace the listed XPI and/or reset the password for the "The Adblock Crew" account, or transfer "ownership" of the extension to a new developer account (I'm not sure exactly what the system is capable of for edge cases like this). Adblock has already been bogusly delisted once; I'd prefer it doesn't happen again. alan: I've contacted Henrik, the original-original developer of Adblock, about CVS access for adblock.mozdev.org. Dunno how long it'll take to percolate through the system.

There's no need to transfer ownership; I'm still here. . Continuing comment #2: an update, when ready, will be posted.

I'm sorry rue but I have to disagree. Official Adblock is in no shape to be listed on a.m.o. It never had a particularly good Firefox support, it is still targeting Mozilla 1.3. One example is my ugly hack replacing the content policy component so we can enforce a policy even if installed into the profile on Mozilla. Firefox doesn't need it and I suggested removing it quite a while ago, yet it is still there (not in Adblock Plus though). Another example is the uninstall function that is buggy by design - and it isn't even hidden on Firefox (Adblock Plus at least hides it). There is lots of other things that can be improved and streamlined if you refocus on Firefox and I simply don't believe you can do it. Adblock Plus has significant improvements over the official version, please accept it as the new official Adblock project and contribute to it. Firefox 1.5 will be released in a few days, there should be a proper version of Adblock on a.m.o until then - and it should be Adblock Plus.

Wladimir: The next generation of Adblock already exists. Ben sent a message to your listed email, but in case you don't receive it: join us, on irc, and we'd be happy to have your feedback / testing.

Oh, that sounds great. Why not post betas/updates then? (At least the one that fixes the 1.5RC issues). Just leaving the users in the dark is not a good thing to do.

Just want to make sure the things listed at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315221 will be taken care of: - Java applets and embedded movies don't work correctly in FF 1.5 + Adblock mostly, applets that use <applet>...</applet> instead of the <object> tag don't work. embedded movies don't show up when using <object>....<embed>...</embed></object> (there are exceptions though)

(In reply to comment #19) > Where can we grab the update? (It's not on the automatic updates.) > Thanks. https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10 The update URL points to adblock.mozdev.org which rue will need to update before the auto-update will work.
