Build Identifier: version 1.5 Beta 2 (20051006)
After an attachment has been detached, attempting to drag and drop the (detached) attachment still listed in the message window will cause Thunberbird to lock up.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Detach an attachment from a message window.
2. Drag and drop the attachment from the message window into Windows Explorer.
3. A message will appear saying the file cannot be found and does not respond when OK is clicked. Instead, TB locks up.
Actual Results:
TB locked up. Must End Task in Task Manager.
Expected Results:
Clicking OK after being notified that the file does not exist should allow TB to resume normal operation.

Reproduced with TB 1.6a1-1117, Win2K. The message reads:
Unable to save the attachment, please check your file name and try again later.
There's an additional strangeness to this: when dragging the attachment, if I drag to the left, the message displays and the hang occurs as soon as the cursor crosses beyond the left edge of the message body; no drop required. This is true whether crossing into the folder pane, or if I drag down below the 3-pane and then to the left.
But I can quickly drag straight down to get the desktop and drop it there; in this case, the error appears but the program is not locked up. I click OK and the error clears, then reappears -- and this repeats, for a total of five error messages. Then everything seems fine (and nothing has been dropped on the desktop).
But dragging down, or to the right, does appear to cause the error-plus-lockup-while-drag after a short period of time.

I'm no longer (TB 2b1) seeing the strange differences depending on which way I drag the attachment. Also, per bug 332117 -- when the error message pops up, it can be dismissed by typing <space> or <enter>; the problem is the mouse events are no longer being processed normally because the error message popped up mid-drag.
I still think this is major severity: it does look like the program has hung, since -- when you're dragging -- the natural way to try to clear an error is to use the mouse. You have to think like a programmer to realize the keyboard might help.

Mike, can you still see this issue under Windows? I cannot reproduce it for 2.0.0.5pre under Mac OS X.

Seems that it cannot be reproduced. I'll close this bug as WFM. If you can still see it please reopen again.
