Noticed similar postings (Bug 315100) on this feature, but found it relevant to add a comment as drag and drop is not on the road map:

If Calendar/Sunbird was able to make new tasks/events when dropping Thunderbird mails in the calendar, it would not only be a good and useful feature, it would also cover (partly) the desire to support invitations (which is on the road map). 

My personal experience is that I am struggling to find a good replacement for the calendar function integrated in Outlook - drag and drop/ invitation support is the main obstacle.

Reporter, I don't really see what information this bug has to offer other than what is already in bug 137093.  The bug you reference was marked as a duplicate of that bug, so I'm assuming you're familiar with it.  How is this different?
