We need to make sure that it is OK to ship the VC8 redistributable libraries with Firefox before we can change the builds over to VC8.

We haven't even sorted out the issues with VC 7 yet! <sigh>
Can someone attach or give links to the relevant EULAs and code redistribution permission statements?

We are not going to "sort out" VC7; it doesn't work, and we won't be distributing VC71 builds
I've got the VC8 parts and am getting lawyerly review on them; the troublesome clause in VC71 has been changed in our favour, so I have reason for hope.

The libraries we need from VC8 are Redistributable Code, and our counsel has agreed that it's safe for us to distribute those libraries with Firefox under our EULA. It is _not_ permissible to redistribute those libraries with binaries that are covered by the GPL, but we don't ever intend to do so. (It's very likely not permissible to redistribute the VC6 libraries either, but those are old enough that virtually all users have them from modern-enough OSes or other applications.)

Shuould I open a new bug on actually redistributing those bits? It's a non-trivial exercize in that it differs between win2k and winxp.

Sure, this bug was just about making sure it was OK to do so.
