(Whiteboard: [nsbeta2+])
1) Go to www.pingtool.com or www.bfg.tasnet.net
2) on PT click the "Message Board" link on the left, on BFG click
the "Discussions" link.
3) In either, enter into any Forum, then into any Thread, you should now be at
where you see messages.
4) Click back once, takes you back to the Thread selection from the forum youre
in. (Proper)
5) Click back again, takes you back 2 pages.
At step 5 it should back you up to the Forum selection page, yes it jumps 2
pages back.
I think this seems to be frame related because on an unframed UBB this problem
does not present itself. The left menu -> right contents, framing is similar
between both of these sites.
I also don't think this is just a UBB problem, but I have yet to find or build
a suitable test, and in UBB I can reproduce it every time which is why i'm
using it as the example.
I'm running 2000031808/Windows 98.
Just noticed that if you use either of these 2 sites, then follow a main menu
link, then any 3 links in the target frame, it will produce the same result.
First click of the Back button works properly, then the next jumps back 2
pages ...
Nisheeth, sort of a session history issue. How handles this?
Assignee: troy → nisheeth
Not entirely sure, but I don't have that problem thats in 28142 anymore. I think
this is un-related.
Sorry, getting my bugs confused. (Dunno how you netscape guys do it) ... 28971
is the one that I am no logner experiencing, so perhaps this is related to 28142
... However I don't see the direct correlation, it's not loading them in wrong
frames, it's jumping back too many spots in the history.

This shouldn't be in Layout. Moving to History.

Can't check this until session history for frames works properly. Adding
dependency.

Should this not be a dupe of 36547? Frames and back button are symtoms of that
bug as well

Radha, are this bug and bug #36547 essentially the same bug? If so, mark this
one as the duplicate. Thanks.

Hmm, testing with 2000-08-01-04-M17 on WinNT, the back button works properly
following the original steps for http://www.pingtool.com/, but the steps
describe in the Additional Comments From sentinel@illusions.dhs.org 2000-03-19
09:19 result in going back before http://www.pingtool.com/ no matter how
many links have been followed into the site.
Specifically:
1. Go to http://www.pingtool.com/
2. Click on "News" in the left-hand frame; wait for the other frame to reload.
3. Click on "Pingtool's Features" in the right-hand frame; wait for that frame
to reload.
4. Click on the [Back] button.
Expected: The "News" page again.
Actual: whatever page came before the first http://www.pingtool.com/ page.
I'm not, however, sure that this is the same bug and/or there is not already
a bug open on this second problem.

Radha, I don't know how you want to handle this. The original report references www.pingtool.com. I checked this out and SH and
Frames were behaving well.
I went to www.cinescope.com and all hell broke loose. These two sites are very similar in structure - yet one works and the other
doesn't. I just followed the steps outlined above.(here they are again)
1. Surf to http://www.dmoz.org
2. Type http://www.cinescope.com
3. Click Left-hand frame - 'Forums'
4. Click RHS 'Guest Access'
5. Click any from the list of forums.
6. Click 'Back'
I went at least two pages back(instead of the one). You don't even have to do Step 5. I clicked back after Step 4 and went back
to dmoz.org
Normally, I would verify the fix and open a new bug, but because these are so similar I've reopened.
I tested with the 2000080104 M17 (beta2) branch build.
I just did a mid-air collision w/ sidr's comments -- after reading them I think this should be REOPENED - I don't know of another
bug.

This is not a regression. Since the original url provided works fine, myself and
nisheeth think that this does not qualify to be a beta2 blocker. I'm closing
this one as fixed. opening a new one for the cinescape problem.

This still happens at both of the original sites. However instead of skipping 2
pages back as it was, it's skipping backwards to the last page that was on a
different domain.
ie.
1) go to www.yahoo.com
2) go to www.pingtool.com
3) follow the message board link
4) enter into any forum, then any thread
5) press Back
You'll be taken back to yahoo.com ...

in a bit of handwaving, this bug is going to be marked VERIFIED. bug 47365 is a new (nsbeta2-) specific bug with a min testcase.
I have an ill-formed theory about why some of these work and some don't. I'll test it out and comment in that bug when I've got
a better handle on it.

This is verified as fixed, _but_ bug 45227 which has been labeled a dupe of
this claims to not be fixed along with this bug. Either this bug is not fully
fixed, or that bug is not a dupe of this one. Could you spare a moment or two
to check it out?
Comment 32•24 years ago
|

I took several moments to look at this. By no means should this bug be reopened or any such
thing. It is a large, muddled, unwieldy mess, it won't do anyone any good. Let's undupe the other
bug and run with that.
