When comparing the pref panels "privacy / passwords" in Firefox and Thunderbird, it is confusing that both panels look mostly identical, but both contain one checkbox (only), with different wording, which indeed have different meaning.

Mozilla/SeaMonkey have two checkboxes, which both make sense for both Firefox and Seamonkey.

Firefox has a checkbox to toggle "remember passwords".
Thunderbird has a checkbox to toggle "use encryption when storing passwords".

This bug suggests that both pref panels should be consistent.

The checkbox "remember passwords" should be added to Thunderbird.
See also bug 326172 for the corresponding change to Firefox.

Probably a good start, however bug 448716 is suggesting moving toward a greater overhaul of this page so I'm not sure which to get done first. Likely this is an easy initial win to make happen.
Those screenshots are old and I believe Bug 239131 already has some synchronisation for this (due to the password manager migration).

Though at the moment we have a mismatch between where the two sets of prefs reside.
Blake: the only bit left on this bug would be to add a remember passwords button.

I'm not sure if we really need to do that, as we don't currently do separate dialogs offering to save passwords, we only have a checkbox displayed. The back-end pref is still respected though.
Severity: normal → minor
Depends on: 448716

Comment 7 is still accurate, so the differences are reasonable. Like bug 448716 I think we can close this.
