User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060518 Minefield/3.0a1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060518 Minefield/3.0a1 When I try to view: http://barillari.org/~jdb/thumb.jpg ...I get the standard "The image xyz cannot be displayed, because it contains errors" error message. Standard linux programs (the GIMP, gqview) display the image without complaint. For reference, the image was generated from the file http://barillari.org/~jdb/options.pdf using the command convert -thumbnail 100x options.pdf'[0]' thumb.jpg For reference, I'm using $ convert -version Version: ImageMagick 6.2.4 03/30/06 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org Copyright: Copyright (C) 1999-2005 ImageMagick Studio LLC on Debian Unstable. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to http://barillari.org/~jdb/thumb.jpg Actual Results: I get the "image contains errors" message. Expected Results: Displayed the image. (In fairness, IE doesn't display it, either -- but linux image-display programs do, so it's not totally hosed.)

The Windows program SlowView (which I'm not sure is still available) displays this JPEG (and the two listed at bug 228960: attachment 207719 [details] and http://www.coop99.at/darwins-nightmare/darwin/press/darwin_03.jpg [4MB]) IE6 does not display any of these correctly. Opera 8.5 displays the "darwin" one OK, but not the other two.

Sample image from the dupe: http://www.dinodragon.com/CERTIFicate.jpg [762KB] I'm asserting all of these images are similar because they all appear incorrectly, but legibly, using my old [version 1.D2 for Windows 95] copy of LView Pro, which displays the image with a vertical banding appearance that is quite odd. Using a zoom-in utility, it appears that each vertical column of pixels in the original image is being somehow interpolated into two lines, with each column in a somewhat different color. A closeup of the above image in certain low-density parts shows the columns alternating in CYMK, but that could be an artifact of the data.
