It would be cool if Thunderbird integrated w/ Web App calendars like Google Calendar or Yahoo!Calendar. For starters, just being able to sign-in and interact w/ Google Calendar via Thunderbird would be nice (considering dmose is taking forever w/ Lightning). - A calendar button in the toolbar should launch Google Calendar. - Login should be part of password manager. - All links and interaction should occur within Thunderbird. Within the Vertical View to replace the message pane would be ideal so essentially it would be using the Mail Start Page area. But I have a big screen (maybe this is an option). Probably best to replace everything except the folder sidebar, in other words take out the header view and message pane just like what Lightning does.

I remember talking about using Thunderbird tabs to open up Google Calendar inside Thunderbird. I'm pretty sure we talked about doing that in an extension like lightning is. I still like the idea a lot. Not sure how to proceed with this bug.
I filed this a long time ago. I think maybe push this feature through add-ons work.

Agreed that this sounds like an add-ons sort of thing in the Tb3 time frame. The web content work that Standard8 has been doing should enable this.

Just wanted to note that I did a quick extension up today that implements this concept using some of the new tab code that has been landed in Thunderbird recently. This is not fully working. Right now this will open up a new google calendar each time you click on the link and it does not allow you to login. When a new patch lands in bug 497570 these things should be fixed. I'm working with Mark to make this kind of use case happen. That rocks; nice work, Bryan!
In terms of doing this as an extension or inside Thunderbird we'll need the following bugs fixed.
Depends on: 511240, 497570, 511242

Just so I understand the goal of this bug, are we talking about an add-on that syncs google calendar to thunderbird, or are we talking about a web application launcher from within thunderbird that does no syncing, but conveniently pulls up google calendar? Thanks in advance, Will
What we're actually working on at this point is the plumbing to let someone make an add-on that would load up a web calendar (google calendar, rememberthemilk, 30boxes, etc.) in a tab, so that it was useable. IOW, the latter.

Summary: Integrate w/ Web App Calendars → Support integration with Web App Calendars
That the google calendar tab (and probably others) exist is proof it's possible to integrate in a tab. I don't think any further integration is in the cards.
