User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060905 Minefield/3.0a1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060905 Minefield/3.0a1
When the message-list has a lot of messages and the sort is sorted by date ascending, the message list pane doesn't scroll completely down.
This results in that the scrollposition is not at the end but at around 3/4 of the complete list.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. You need to have enough messages in the Inbox to display a scrollbar.
2. Order by date ascending (new messages on bottom)
3. Scroll to last message and select it.
4. Restart Tb
Actual Results:
The list isn't scrolled down completely anymore.
Expected Results:
Like it was before: scroll to the last couple of messages.
When I disable or minimize the message pane, the last received message is displayed correctly visible at the bottom, without any userlist scroll (reproducable, with any number of messages)
So it seems the scrollposition is determined just before the message pane is displayed, and when the message pane is displayed on startup, the message pane covers the bottom messages.

does this still work on the thunderbird 2 branch or is it trunk only?

The Thunderbird 2 branch also shows this (tried with the latest nightly)

hmm, this is working for me using the thunderbird 2 nightly build.
I sort with the newst on the bottom. I select the newest message. Then I restart.
When the app comes up, thunderbird jumps the scroll position all the way to the bottom again. Are you sure this option is still enabled in Tools / Options / Advanced / General?
And that you dont' have any extensions that could be causing this to break?

I've got no extensions, clean application folder.
My Tb has 2 configured accounts, the first is a Gmail account, the second a IMAP account. And the option "Remember the last selected message" is selected.
My Gmail account (pop3) is the one which opens on startup and doesn't scroll down completely.
I've tried configuring a complete new profile here, with only 1 IMAP account. The imap account doesn't seem to scroll to the lowest message for an instance, but after completing the sync with the IMAP server it suddenly scrolls down completely.
On my work my trunk build has one account (pop3) which also doesn't completely scroll down. (no extensions).
Next I will try a complete new profile with only one pop3 account with lots of messages in the inbox.

Tested with an clean profile at work (trunk).
With only one POP3 account it doesn't scroll to the last selected message on restart.

When did this regress for you (on trunk or branch), Ger?

I'd be happy to find the regression window. But I seem to have lost the link to the ftp server with the old thunderbird builds. Anyone able to provide me that link?

Thanks.
Phew, after a lot of Download... Extract... Run... Deletes I found it:
It regressed between the 2006-06-06-04 and 2006-06-07-11 builds.

Wow, thanks. Ger was that a trunk or a thunderbird 2 branch regression range?

My guess would be either bug 329544 or bug 296040. But since this exists on branch and trunk and bug 296040 didn't land on branch, then bug 329544 is to blame.
Trunk: http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=ThunderbirdTinderbox&branch=HEAD&branchtype=match&dir=&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=explicit&mindate=2006-06-06+03&maxdate=2006-06-07+05&cvsroot=%2Fcvsroot
Branch: http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=ThunderbirdTinderbox&branch=MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH&branchtype=match&dir=&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=explicit&mindate=2006-06-06+03&maxdate=2006-06-07+05&cvsroot=%2Fcvsroot

Works fine for me using BuildID 20060622 on TB trunk, can anyone else reproduce this problem?

Since I changed View/Layout back to Classic from Vertical(a few weeks ago), I'm experiencing symptom of comment #0 on SeaMonkey trunk(currently 200600831/Win2K).
When Classic layout, and when just after restart, and only when first opened mail folder(POP3), mail list pane is opened with full window height(newest mails are displayed at bottom correctly), then mail list pane is narrowed for displaying message pane. On narrowing, mails at top in full height pane are kept, instead of mails at bottom ones(newest ones).
This phenomenon doesn't occur when second or later mail folder opening(including re-opening of the first mail folder on which problem occurred).
This phenomenon can be re-created by mail&news only restart when SeaMonkey.
It seems to be a result of temporary loss of mail list pane height.
(mail list pane height should be restored after restart and before first mail list pane open?)
This can not be observed if Vertical layout is used, because narrowing is not needed.
Sorry but I don't know when "open with full height then narrow" started on Classic layout, because I have been using Vertical Layout since Vertical layout was implemeted.

It was trunk, but I am seeing this in the current 2 branch as well.

Hmmm, I only use IMAP and do not see it there. Perhaps it is a POP only problem?
Ger, do you use POP or IMAP?

Yep. Comment#4 describes my mail account situation completely.

Just a note to remind myself, Neil said "for some reason the tree doesn't know its page length yet" and to perhaps talk to Enn about that.

cc'ng Enn so he can look at the issue.

"[] Remember last selected message" is actually moot, or should be: I run with that option turned off, but: it *still* used to scroll all the way to the end when selecting a folder; whereas now the last four or so messages are scrolled below the thread pane.
