I occasionally get non-members posting legitimate support questions to the support mailing lists; and I don't know if those people think the list address is a private email support service. More specifically, any replies are usually not emailed to the original poster (non-member). I'd like to turn off non-member posting to the support lists, but I fear that the default rejection notice will not clear things up for the user, who mistakingly thinks the mailing list is a private support venue. I didn't see any settings for this in the list admin panel; so I did some digging, and according to <http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users@python.org/msg36359.html>, customizing the message per-list was implemented in Mailman 2.1.7. Currently, lists.mozilla.org uses Mailman 2.1.5; so I'm making this bug dependent on bug 252462.
That bug is irrelevant, because it's for upgrading a Mailman 2.0 install to 2.1.x. Normally we'll have whatever Mailman RHEL ships (which happens to be 2.1.5 with backported security patches at the moment). Given there's a known feature we need, and that we have this Mailman locally hacked sufficiently enough that upgrades have to be done manually already anyway (instead of automatically taking RHEL's update), I'll be happy to install a newer version on lists.mozilla.org. Something else to keep in mind though is the planned course of action on bug 348858... once we go that route, we'll need to fit the reject message into one line of text... (and the template from Mailman will be irrelevant).

No longer depends on: mailman21
Whiteboard: requires mailman 2.1.7
Depends on: 372888
Although bug 372888 isn't yet marked as fixed, the upgrade seems to have been successful, at least in terms of the new version having this feature. I tested with <https://lists.mozilla.org/admin/test/?VARHELP=privacy/sender/nonmember_rejection_notice>, and as far as I can tell, it works. Thanks. :-)

I want to put this in place on all of the mailing lists, not just the support ones, so reopening until I get a change to push this with a withlist script. :)
