I have installed Shockwave 8 Player into Netscape 6 beta 1. When I go to a site with Shockwave content, the Shockwave content shows up as a grey box. It doesn't indicate that I don't have Shockwave Player installed, it just shows up as a big grey box.
Keywords: beta2, shockwave
The plugin seems not to be detected on this page. But shockwave movies on other pages do load and play properly. Pls try www.powershot.com or www.oddcast.com. Changing summary.
Summary: Shockwave Player does not work in Netscape 6 Beta 1 → Shockwwave player not detected and grey box appears
http://www.powershot.com/ and http://www.oddcast.com/ both work for me. Shockwave Player 8.0r196, Mac OS 9.0.4, Mozilla M16 2000041608 Describe behavior occurs on Macromedia's website (I bet they do it on purpose).
Adding comments from Miriam. powershot.com and oddcast.com are both FLASH sites, not Shockwave. This is a Shockwave site: http://www.rita.nu/iSketch.shtml Or any of the games at: http://clevermedia.com/arcade/ Please contact me if you need further information. Yep, thanks Miriam !
Verified. All Shockwave (vs. Flash) content shows up as a grey box (the Shockwave content doesn't even appear to load). Confirming and changing to critical (non- critical component (yet) and Flash is still on hold until M17). Candidate for pp? (Status of Shockwave on Windows/Linux?)

I get a crash if I try to load this page on mac. Momentarily a grey box is displayed but then the browser crashes. Forgot to mention that I added the 'Np-PPC-Dir-Shockwave' plugin file manually in mozilla's plugins folder.
Yeah, the automatic installation of Shockwave doesn't work. Further contact from Miriam shows that this problem also occurs on Windows platforms (Shockwave content shows up as a black box and fails to load/display).
Not really, I can see shockwave working on windows for m15 builds. Try link http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/director/shocklist/index.html . Also the above mentioned url (macromedia) plays shockwave properly on windows build.
Putting on [nsbeta2-] radar. Eric, is this happening because Macromedia needs to update Shockwave plug-in?

I see several issues here. shrir, could you please separate this out into distinct bug reports as appropriate? 1) a crash bug that should be fixed 2) the autodetect-and-use-Nav4-plugins-when-plugin-not-installed-in-Mozilla feature doesn't seem to be working for Shockwave; we may not bother to fix this depending on the decision on bug 23856 ("should we load Nav4 plug-ins or not"). So don't invest cycles fixing this aspect of this bug until that decision's made. Marking dependency on 23856 for this specific sub-issue. 3) Separate from (2), if the existing Shockwave plug-in binary (when manually installed into the Mozilla plugins directory) doesn't work, that's a bug with backward compatibility with existing plug-in binaries (sans LiveConnect)--a key goal of the Mozilla plug-in API. 4) If there are any PP differences here, that's another separate issue.
Depends on: 23856
I logged a seperate bug for the crash problem ( bug 36568). Logged another bug for backward compatibilty problem ( bug 36569). Bug for quicktime crashing browser is bug 24718. Bug for Realplayer crashing browser is bug 36571.

Shrirang, if everything is covered in other bug reports, can we close this one?
