[rfe] ignore thread for mail

for news, we already have UI for ignoring threads.  could we offer the same functionality for mail?

the problem I'm trying to solve is when I get thread on a mailing list that I don't care about, and would never like to see again.

alternatively, could we extend "Create Filter from Message" or add "Create Filter for Thread" to pop up the filter dialog using the message id, references, and/or the subject?

I mentioned this idea to scott, and he thinks an extension would be the right place to implement this sort of thing.

So, the only reason we don't ignore threads for mail is because people accidentally type the keyboard shortcut for ignore/kill and their mail disappears.  The backend fully supports ignoring mail threads. Instead of an extension, we could try to ignore the keyboard accelerator for mail, and make users use the menu, or we could do a confirmation with one of those "don't warn me again" checkboxes.

I wonder how a user would know to delete message in the mail thread (that's different from the news model). I like the idea of re-using the ignore thread infrastructure but wonder if the real desired action is moving all future messages in this thread to trash...

Maybe a pref would be useful here? Something like:

When I ignore an email thread:

* Move it and all future messages to trash immediately
* Hide it from view and move to trash after x days
* Hide it from view and do not move to trash

I'd like to see watched and ignored threads for mail as I use thunderbird for mailing lists. Ignored e-mail messges should not be deleted, but simply not displayed unless "show ignored messages" is enabled. A hidden pref to enable it for e-mail would be enough, but even better would be a warning when ignoring e-mails.
