User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; ru) Opera 9.02 Build Identifier: http://mozilla.mirrors.tds.net/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/1.5.0.8/win32/ru/Thunderbird%20Setup%201.5.0.8.exe Many times before I encounter strange issue: TB beeps, like it (automatically) downloads message from some post server for some of my account, but when I look inside TB, I see no changes. With latest TB release, I encounter similar issue twice: TB beeps, shows in tray pop-up window, that given account receives letter... but when I look into TB, I not found anything (new) neither in Inbox, nor in Spam, nor in Deleted... Help! Does TB makes logs, where I may see, which letters it silently kills? How to prevent lost of trafic in future? Reproducible: Always
Reporter, could this be a duplicate of bug 228168. Do you use an IMAP account with filters? Could it be like bug 233930 and your spam is automaticly deleted?
> Reporter, could this be a duplicate of bug 228168. No: 1. This is POP account. 2. Notification says about 1 message, not about 0 messages. 3. I have no filters definied. > Do you use an IMAP account with filters? No. > Could it be like bug 233930 I see no relations. > and your spam is automaticly deleted? Letters, which TB think is spam, TB marks as spam and moves to Spam folder. Those letters I then remove myself. At least, this was so in previous TB builds - in current edition I not yet receive letters into Spam folder. PS: BTW, currently, after I press F5 on discussed account, at right side of status bar I see "Unread: -1 Total: -1". Is this bug?

Could you look at bug 331840 comment 3, and check if the negative total is caused by you performing the steps there.
> Could you look at bug 331840 comment 3, and check if the negative total is > caused by you performing the steps there. See my comment there (bug 331840 comment 15).
Very likely a duplicate of bug 360409. Can you try to open the folder in a text editor and check if the mail is there (only not showing in the thread pane)? (Find it in your profile folder, http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder.)
(In reply to comment #6) > Very likely a duplicate of bug 360409. May be, I don't know reasons for problem in my case. But comment "If you sort by date, or any other column, and are non-threaded, you will see all your messages" says, that this is _not_ duplication, because, because I very rarely use threading and only (sometime) in News (when there is none quoted text, which answered). > Can you try to open the folder in a text > editor and check if the mail is there (only not showing in the thread pane)? 1. I not use threading. 2. I don't know which folder-file to see (I have more than one account + there enabled spam filter). Also, I month wait when problem arises again, but I not hear yet beeps without new explicit messages (though, my mail-traffic through TB is not too heavy), so I can't check changes in folder-files, which relate to beeps. On the other side, currently (with 1.5.0.9) I see: DRAFTS 0 15.11.06 2:31 Drafts FILTER~1 HTM 0 13.11.06 14:36 filterlog.html HISTORY 76 311 21.12.06 18:15 History INBOX 80 366 27.12.06 21:21 Inbox INBOX MSF 7 599 27.12.06 21:37 Inbox.msf JUNK 0 27.12.06 12:45 Junk JUNKLO~1 HTM 141 873 22.12.06 2:33 junklog.html MSGFIL~1 DAT 28 13.11.06 14:37 msgFilterRules.dat POPSTATE DAT 64 27.12.06 21:20 popstate.dat SENT 31 963 14.12.06 20:43 Sent TEMPLA~1 0 11.05.06 1:04 Templates TRASH 0 27.12.06 21:21 Trash TRASH MSF 1 456 27.12.06 21:37 Trash.msf Does non-empty trash.msf indicates some problem? Wow! I catch! Right now, after logining to server, I was see that Inbox was quickly flash and nothing more happen! I was look into account files, and found, that there was spam letter, which TB (silently) places into Junk folder, but it not seen in this folder through TB front end! The more so, I was try to restart TB and found, that after exiting it creates empty .msf files. Details: 1. Account tree content (as seen through TB front end): Vhodyashie (Inbox), not empty Chernoviki (Drafts), empty Shablony (Templates), empty Otpravlennye (Sent), not empty Spam (Junk), empty Udalennye (Removed), empty History, non empty 2. Are you saying that TB 1.5.0.9 doesn't show that message in the message list at all, or it doesn't show any messages at all in the message list, and that's the only message? I don't think it really has to do with the contents of the message. I suspect you're running into the same problem that others have seen with 1.5.0.9, which I think has to do with some sort of leak of resources like file handles and memory (win98 would be especially vulnerable to this kind of problem). That problem seems to cause 0 byte msf files in some situations.

(In reply to comment #11) > Ok, how I may help with fixing this bug? Well, it would be interesting to know if 2.0 beta builds have the same problem. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8/
> Well, it would be interesting to know if 2.0 beta builds have the same problem. Is it enough stable to _replace_ current 1.5.0.9? TB is my working tool and it works with external environment (servers), which I can't backup, so I can't have two different simultaneous TB instances installed.
I don't see why you couldn't have them installed side by side. If you are not satisfied, you can always go back. I'd say they are pretty stable, using 2.0 betas all the time my self. But of course it's a beta, and some things need more polish. It's always a small risk, but what's life without risks:)
> I don't see why you couldn't have them installed side by side. Because TB works with external environment and, thus, its instances can't be isolated and works simultaneously with same data. Especially, TB is my working tool, and I can't risk with it. If you mean, install second instance with no accounts defined in it, then this is meaningless. > If you are not > satisfied, you can always go back. I can't go back, if it crashes my data. > I'd say they are pretty stable, using 2.0 betas all the time my self. But of > course it's a beta, and some things need more polish. It's always a small risk, > but what's life without risks:) Is there already works autoupdate? Is there present dark palettes, like Walnut theme (my sight is weak and bright white background is painful for me)?
No idea about what palettes/themes are available. Autoupdate (from the beta1 -> final) should work, yes.

Bienvenu, biff-related? /me isn't sure if the biff code has changed by now...
I think this has to do with the junk.msf file not being valid after messages are moved to the junk folder. I'm not sure why this is - perhaps a missing commit?

Flags: blocking-thunderbird3?
Until this bug is clearer, i don't think it belongs on the blocking list. We're not interested in 2.0 bugs for this list, btw.
