This is spun off from bug 362724.
The upcoming testcase gives this assertion on print preview with current trunk builds.

Martijn, is there any chance to get the test case a little bit trimmed?
Why are you filing this under layout and not layout-tables. I have seen this with a couple of bugs that you filed recently and suspect a reasoning that is not so obvious for me.

Ok, making it a bit more minimal was not that hard, so apparently I didn't try hard enough the last time.

Sorry, I'll file these under layout->tables again (although for certain layout bugs, I'm not always sure). I was actually not sure if I should file the print/print preview bugs under Core->Printing, a lot of these kind of bugs are filed in that component.

Bumping severity, I now get a hang with current trunk builds on print preview, I guess related to the assertion.
Also https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=247409 from bug 362724 is hanging on print preview in current trunk builds.

Lowering severity, I don't hang anymore with current trunk build, but I'm still seeing the assertion with my debug build.

The testcases don't show the assertion anymore, but https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=247409 still does (among various other assertions).

This is an unminimized testcase that still hangs and triggers the same kind of assertions.

WFM, all attached tests and also the link in comment 8 works for me (no assertion)
when loading and also in Print Preview on Linux64.
