When forwarding some long text messages, compose window opens, but locks up (hangs TB too) for roughly a minute.

Some messages, when I try to forward, cause the compose window to look like crashed. After a long while (about 1 minute), with over 30Mb RAM usage, it gets back to normal state.
It seems to happen only with a failure report I received from my provider. It has lots of text (807kb total).
I usually write or forward messages with attachments of a few Mb without this problem. I've just tried forwarding a message with over 5Mb of attachments and it was OK.

Thanks and regards.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a message with a huge quantity of text
2.Hit "Forward" or press Ctrl-L
3.
Actual Results:
1.Compose window opens
2."To:" field becomes grayed
3.Thunderbird (all windows) gets halted
4.RAM usage goes over 30Mb and CPU usage goes toward 100%
5.After a minute or so, TB gets back to normal operation and I can compose normally

Expected Results:
Compose window should open and allow full editing right away
Forgot to mention: Windows 2000 Pro Pt-BR

It seems this has something to do to pasting long text in either TB or Windows. I made the following test:
1.Opened a new message and typed junk
2.Copied and pasted it several times, than did the same with the result and then again, resulting in a huge text message (4.5Mb)
3.Saved as draft
4.Reopened the message
I noticed that pasting the text, when it was long enough, already took a while. That should be expected, since it's huge things getting moved back and forth.
But the problem appears when I open the message: the compose window freezes up the same way described before, until TB is able to load the full text.

Should TB allow editing while loading the text? I mean edit the already loaded part :) . I'd expect loading to take a while, but I don't like TB hung during that while.

Best regards.
Does turning off inline spell checking help? If so, mark this as duplicate of
bug 324521.
Hi Magnus,
Spell checking is already disabled, both inline and while sending. I checked both Tools/Options, and config editor (may be unnecessary, but I'm a beginner). Could this be a duplicate of bug 311137? I didn't mark anything cuz I'm not sure.
I also thought that the folder compression could interfere, since was set to compression (may be using the wrong name, maybe "condense") beginning in 100kb. But I disabled it and nothing changed.
Just in case, I created a message with long text, but with a known word. This 1.5Mb text opened way faster (~10s) than the 800kb code transformed in text that is the object of this report (~1min).
I added TB version to the bug description.
Thanks,

Hard to tell if it's a duplicate or not... Odd that known vs unknown words would have an impact when spellchecking is turned off.

Can you try a recent nightly to see if the problem is still there?
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8/
I installed the Version 2 Beta 1 (20070110) en-US Win32. Still hangs for ~1min when opening compose window for forwarding the message I mentioned in my report.
I am having _exactly_ the same problem with certain documents using Thunderbird 1.5.0.12 on Ubuntu 7.04 and Mac OSX 10.4.9

Tried the spellcheck thing, no difference. The message I'm dealing with is only around 60k long and plain text.

If I find anything else, I'll add a comment.

At least it seeems that this bug is dupe with bug #440641 (that is newest but has more informations) or not?
I make this a dupe of bug #440641.

Feel free to reopen it if I'm wrong.

Oops, seems I got quite late...
This bug has a major difference to bug 440641: here, the hanging occurs when we hit "Forward" in a long text message, while there, it is when the message is sent. Dunno if they're somehow related under the hood, but the sympthoms are totally diverse.
I'll hold my breath for a while before reopening, just to hear if there's a more technical reason to merge this bug into bug 440641. Pls someone comment.
Thanks!
