User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 1.5.0.9 (20061207)
Thunderbird allows for message filter to be defined, e.g. using "Tools -> Message Filters" or selecting a message and using "Message -> Create Filter from Message".
If you select a mail folder, the menu item "Tools -> Run Filters on Folder" is available.
If you select a news folder this menu item is greyed out.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select newsgroup folder.
2. Click "Tools -> Run Filters on Folder"
3.
Actual Results:
You can not select "Run Filters on Folder".
Expected Results:
You should be able to select "Run Filters on Folder".
According to what I understand from enhancement request that lead to the implementation of news filters (see bug 17483), the "Run Filters on Folder" menu item should be available for news folders, too.
Additionally, bug 178870 mentions, that "Run Filters on Folder" was available in an earlier version of Thunderbird.

Just found a report similar to mine, see bug 327788.
If reinstallation really solves the problem, isn't it still a bug?

I don't think 327788 is like your bug. The feature you want, "after the fact" filtering, has not been implemented for newsgroups.

Meaning only that the menu item was enabled, not that the feature did anything.

English is not my native tongue so I couldn't do anything with "after the fact".
Thanks for pointing out.
