Details
Image spam appears impervious to all existing text-based spam filtering approaches, since the payload is in an attached image or in the HTML body.
I propose that Thunderbird provide the option to block _all_ E-mails that contain images, either in HTML or as attachments, unless they are from addresses that appear in the user's address book, or that the user has sent E-mail to in the past.
This will have the effect of completely blocking all image-based spams, at the cost of forcing new, unsolicited correspondents to send their initial E-mail contact without any image content, and thus allow the textual contents of this E-mail to be used as the basis for filtering in the normal way.
It would not affect:
* plain text, or image-free HTML email, from anyone
* any E-mail at all, in any format, from a previous correspondent
