Gia, we have moved the Georgian build into beta for 2.0.0.1, have you gotten any feedback?

From a search/bookmarks/rss readers, everything is trivial, so we only need some idea on the user feedback.
Depends on: 380904
i miss this bug, as well as 362224 & 380904 :( (seems that was time my hard disk damaged)

As for translation - seems it quiet mature:
We discuss it at our community (forum, chat) and results considered in updated CVS (1.8_branch & trunk).

As for MAC:
Just (few minutes ago) request to our MAC community submitted: asking to check MAC builds (nightly & trunk versions also) and waiting for feedback now. 'll try to process immediately i get it.

Got the feedback for firefox-2.0.0.5pre.ka.mac.dmg - it works on MAC
oops, seems there is problem with MAC - Georgian support is partial.

For me almost impossible (no MAC access) to work on that bug.
i'll try to find bugs like this for other minor languages.
Any clues?
In fact, it works OK, but you need to have Georgian fonts installed:

1. BPG_Glaho.ttf.gz
2. BPG_Chveulebrivi.ttf.gz
3. BPG_Courier.ttf.gz

from http://aiet.qartuli.net/docs/georgian_on_linux_en.php (that's a Linux page, but the fonts work for me on OS X Tiger).

See the attached screenshot.
We have disabled OS X for Georgian as part of bug 380904 due to the font issues.

I don't think that we should undo that decision, as the user experience is totally useless without the additional fonts.
I think we should really reconsider the ban on shipping some locales on the Mac - it seems that usually all you need to have a working Firefox in some locale is to install a few fonts, like in this case.

This should be mentioned in the release notes, but shouldn't be a show stopper, methinks.
We have last versions of BPG fonts (which will be included in Dejavu) discussed in our Google Georgianization group.
You can download them from the "first hand" - http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/snapshots/dejavu-ttf-20070626-1913.zip
i'll try to manage inclusion of [just] above mentioned (nice)ones

i got two feedback: 1st - positive, 2nd - with attached screenshot (i'll try to ask him reproduce it with BPG fonts).

P.S. we're working on our own more universal Unicode fonts also (sure - GPL).
P.P.S. Another option is UCS freefonts (i'm member of this project) http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/freefont/
This bug is not about mac font issues nor about packaging questions. As it is, Gecko on the mac as both are shipped has layout issues with Georgian and other languages. Being able to ship fonts is a bigger issue, from a build to an installation to a licensing question. All of which are challenging problems in their own right.

Release noting something that's all-over broken doesn't suffice, we'd have to have something that resembles an end-user experience.

For now, Georgian is going to remain one of the localizations that we're not shipping by default, filing a bug to improve our situation here is OK, though I wouldn't know how to constructively fix it.

I don't think we have layout issues (see my screenshot - Gia, does anything look wrong in attachment 270173 [details]?) - it's only Georgian fonts that are missing from Mac OS X and need to be installed before Firefox. That's the only issue here, I think.

If I'm right, it should just be listed in the release notes ("install these three fonts before installing Georgian Firefox"), but not block the release.
No, as long as Firefox is too busted for a user to get to the releasenotes, the release notes are not the right place. If you want to pick up this discussion, please do so in a separate bug.
can i assign MAC bug to myself
as mentioned 'll try to reproduce the bug.
as for [mac] release: no need to hurry at all
as for screenshot: that Polska-Georgian _Bon-Echo_ [Bon Echo] looks _not_ [very] bad at all - it means Your Georgian fonts works fine for Your MAC/os
as for font issue: agree (with Marek) and hope everything could be ok, anyway 'll wait for feedback for different MAC hardware/os
really g\have no (especially for build) access on MAC, anyway ...

and :)

as for bug itself :)
seems for me [very] easy - Georgian builds are ready for nix/win/ and no need to hurry for MAC. As agreed, Georgian mac users community (www.mac.ge - Georgian only) will manage it.
So, for now we can ship Georgian (ka) FF [& TB] [for nix, & win] without any compunction/remorse and wait for [hopefully easy] solve of some MAC problrms (if we we'll solve it inside our community).

So... [from my point of view] this bug must not block #362224
as for #380904 - after feedback it'll be time for decision - is it dup or no

P.S. 'll be in mountains next week and will have possibility to process/report MAC users feedback for next weekend [i hope]
No longer blocks: fx2002
Hrm. I'm pondering to just resolve this bug FIXED and to live with the fact that we have a font problem on the mac, and not release that one.

Sadly, the story didn't improve in Firefox 3, I just get little boxens instead of question marks.

I filed bug 411129 to look for a solution on our website, maybe we can actually fix that and enable mac builds then.
Make it so.
