We should get the Malayalam localization landed on the trunk, and then branch it. Joyce, you can attach your localization for pre-landing review to this bug. Filing this bug in "Other", as the component for Malayalam is not up yet.

Attached the Localized files.
Joyce, you would want to request a review on that attachement on me. r? with requestee l10n@mozilla.com. Then it'll be in my queue next week.
Moving over the right component. I'll do the initial import, btw.

Hrm. Did I say anywhere that I did do the initial landing, and added ml to the incubator? You can see a compile a triggered today on http://l10n.mozilla.org/buildbot/, the incubator build will pick up check-ins to the ml localization automatically. Right now, that's taking the localization from trunk and compares it against the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH, and creates a language pack for that.
Hi, I have downloaded the attachement - Malayalam Localization. There are files which are not localized. Can I start working on those files Thanks Ani
Ani, the best start is to actually pull the existing work from CVS. http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Patching_a_Localization should get you started, with MOZ_CO_LOCALES=ml. Of course, I don't exactly know what Joyce would have locally already, so you want to get feedback from her.
So I shall wait for her feedback and then start maybe... I have sent her a mail and is waiting for the reply
@Ani - I have replied to your mail with details. With Axel's help, I have checked in the latest files. We now have 41% of the work completed. BTW, its him not her :)

Hi Joyce, Hope you received my mail with the translations. I am attaching the files here with some more corrected translations. Pike, Except dom/chrome/layout/css.properties and security/manager/chrome/pipnss/pipnss.properties all files are translated. and I am attching the same here.
Joyce, Please review my translations.
Hi Joyce, I just saw that you landed localizations to the installer files. Sadly, the current code for the installer requires that we have a windows code page. I didn't find any codepage, at least none that iconv would support (and the windows extension codepages for Indian scripts are fakes, AFAICT). So I'm afraid we'll have to revert those files back to English again. Maybe we get better in Firefox 3, we're going to evaluate a unicode-patched version of nsis.
Hello Joyce, Whats up? Could you let me know the status. Do you have the English installer files? Thanks Ani
I have checked in the original English files. @Ani - I have sent you a mail.
Hello Joyce, Appreciate if you could let me know about the cvs access I have asked you earlier. Also please tell me from where to get the files to translate to make our Malayalam translations to 100% from 75%. Thanks Ani
@Ani - I have sent Axel an email regarding your cvs access and the untranslated strings. Will contact you when he responds.
Ok Joyce. Thanks a lot Regards Ani
Hi Joyce, I just looked at the compare-locales output and I see a few 'missing' strings, see http://l10n.mozilla.org/buildbot/compare/linux-langpack/66 The reports in the .properties files are actually spurious newlines, the values for the localizable entries should all be in one line. In toolkit/chrome/global/charsetOverlay.dtd, you just checked in parts of a patch literally instead of applying it.
Thanks Axel. I don't understand how the mistake happened. Because I had checked the locale with compare-locale.pl script and directly edited the files before checking in. @Ani - Can you tell me which tool you are using for translation? Are you using Mozilla Translator for translation? I had seen many strings with line breaks and missing closing quote in your submission, on running compare-locale.
Joyce: I open the files in gedit and work on them. Axel: please advice me whats to be done. Thanks Ani
Axel: Is it like to work on the files listed at http://l10n.mozilla.org/buildbot/compare/linux-langpack/66 ??
Yes, 66 is still the latest incubator build. Once you check in fixes, they will be automatically picked up and new builds will be run, you get a link to the latest builds on http://l10n.mozilla.org/~axel/dashboard/, click on "Builds", in the second chunk you find a box with ml, and a linkified number, that's the link to the latest comparison. The buildbot url in comment 5 should be http://l10n.mozilla.org/buildbot/waterfall now. It currently lists 4 files that need edits, the edits should be fairly simple. I would have done them, actually, if there weren't funny chars in there that I don't understand, some odd dots. The DTD file is really obviously broken. You can run compare-locales locally, too, btw. It's up on pypi now, at least a version that works on linux. Just easy_install compare-locales and then you can run it. http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Compare-locales has more information.
Pike: Thanks a lot for the above help.. Will revert if questions or doubts Ani

Pike: I have done some corrections according to the comparison file. Could you please let me know whether all ok and what should I do next? Thanks Ani
We're still at various syntax errors, sadly. See http://l10n.mozilla.org/buildbot/compare/linux-langpack/4469 for your latest build. And I suggest that you try running compare-locales locally, it's going to help you quite a bit. My guess is that it's all stray newlines now, like for example, in http://bonsai-l10n.mozilla.org/cvsblame.cgi?file=/l10n/ml/browser/chrome/browser/shellservice.properties&mark=4-5. The value for setDefaultBrowserMessage should be all in one line.
Thanks Pike. Will work on and revert. Thanks for the help. Best regards Ani
Pike: I think I have completed all the changes you have asked me to do. Please could you check. Thanks Ani
Pike: any updates on this? Thanks Ani
Thanks a lot Pike. Now once you are back, please guide me what are the things to be done to have malayalam (ml) included for the next release. Thanks Ani
Pike: Have translated the getting started file for Firefox 3 in ml including all suggestions from Joyce too. Hence the file is final and has attached the index.html file in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428188 and added required comments. Thanks Ani
