For Firefox 2 in Malayalam, we need to pick a good - set of search engines - set of RSS readers - RSS example feed The guide is at http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox2/L10n_Requirements. Joyce, any suggestions?
Search Engine: Google - http://www.google.com/intl/ml/ I don't think there are any Malayalam RSS reader. I will search for it. RSS example feeds MSN Malayalam - http://content.msn.co.in/rsscache/malayalam.rss Yahoo News - http://in.malayalam.yahoo.com/rss/news.xml Yahoo Finance - http://in.malayalam.yahoo.com/rss/business.xml Yahoo Entertainment - http://in.malayalam.yahoo.com/rss/entertainment.xml There are several other feeds listed at http://in.malayalam.yahoo.com/rss/index.htm
Seems like we could create a plugin for http://in.malayalam.yahoo.com/ instead of the plain yahoo.com one. The global google.com plugin should just work, though.
in.malayalam.yahoo.com is just a Malayalam portal. It is not a Malayalam Search Engine. The searches are redirected to in.search.yahoo.com

Hi Joyce i haven't found any RSS readers either, but I'm still looking. are there good RSS feed sources that are as comprehensive as the BBC for Malayalam or is the BBC still a good default choice
Due to lack of proper unicode support in major browser (except IE), most of the Malayalam websites haven't switched to unicode, yet. Hence lets release the first version with BBC itself as the default choice.
ok (comment #9) can you reset for me on the list of search plug-ins you have. from what i read above Comment #4, it seems like you'll use Yahoo.in for main search? will there be the usual others i.e., google, answers, amazon, ebay, wikipedia? or are there local websites that serve as a shopping and or auction site? (I don't believe any of the others listed offer a malayalam version except Wikipedia: ml.wikipedia.org) thanks mic
Nope. Google will be a much better default option and it also provides a malayalam version of the search engine at http://www.google.com/intl/ml/. According to Axel, Google will automatically detect the right locale by identifying the accept-locale header. Yahoo provides an Indian version of its search engine at http://in.search.yahoo.com, which none of the other Indian locales were using. As per Axel's advice, I just created a patch for Yahoo India Search Engine. Other than Google and Wikipedia, none of the other search engines offer malayalam version. But eBay has an Indian version at http://www.ebay.in.
thanks. so the final list might be: google.com/intl/ml yahoo.in ebay.in ml.wikipedia.org ?
That looks fine.

Hi, I just reverted an accidental check-in to list.txt, so now we should pick up the search plug-ins again. The current list is amazondotcom answers creativecommons eBay-in google yahoo-in wikipedia-ml which means that the first three from en-US are still in. Which is OK, I'm not sure if that was intended or not, reading comment 12. If not, mind creating a patch for just list.txt to remove amazondotcom, answers, and creativecommons, with the usual r? for l10n@mozilla.com?
I am so sorry for the delay. My exams were going on. I am uploading the patch.

BTW, can you plz tell me what to do with spellcheck? We don't have a malayalam dictionary.
the order of the search plug-ins is important also we have a new set of guidelines that might help in your choices here is the link: http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_Guidelines the order the search plug ins needs to follow is: Google Yahoo-in ebay-in Wikipedia-ml For RSS readers if there are no Malayalam versions could we use ones available in another language that is spoken in the region? or use the defaults in English? (take a look at the guidelines above)
Plz check the updated patch . The wiki page above is empty. It will be better to use the English default. Because the other regional languages are very much different and has completely different character set. And most of the people are not able to read or write in those languages.

Comment on attachment 294468 [details] [diff] [review] Updated patch for list.txt http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_guidelines is the real wikipage (different casing). Notes: The order in list.txt itself does not matter, we only put order in by region.properties, and that's fine as it is. For dictionaries, it depends on the licensing, the license needs to be compatible with all of MPL, LGPL and GPL (the 2 versions of the latter two). BSD-style is ok, too.

We need another patch here, to fix the following: - update wikipedia, they have changed the titles on the search links, ShortName should be "വിക്കിപീഡിയ (ml)". As you're on it, mind updating the plugin to match the latest and greatest, too? http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/browser/locales/en-US/searchplugins/wikipedia.xml is a good guidance. - fix region.properties: browser.search.defaultenginename = browser.search.order.1 = browser.search.order.2 = all these should match the ShortName's in the search xml files, in this case, it should be Google and Yahoo, not translations or transcriptions thereof. Please attach a patch and request review from me on it.

Here is the patch for the Wikipedia Plugin. Should I submit a patch for region.properties too? Can I check it in directly?

Comment on attachment 309102 [details] [diff] [review] Patch for region.properties r=me. Please check this in with a check-in comment referencing this bug and my review (same for wikipedia patch). Something like "bug 394749, fix errors in region.properties, r=l10n@mozilla.com" would work for this patch, or "bug 394749, update wikipedia plugin to match site, r=l10n@mozilla.com" for the wp patch.

Oops! Sorry. I committed the wikipedia patch, right after you granted the review. Can I edit it somehow? Checked in region.properties
np, editing comments requires more priviledges than you or I have, so let's not worry too much. But for future reference, if there is a bug tracking a particular change, reference it in the check-in comment. That way, you can find the bug from cvs history.
I just checked in an updated version of ml/browser/profile/bookmarks.html. It now points to ml URLs instead of en-US ones, so please update your working copies. The link titles in that file still need translation.

Pike: have updated the translations. Could you let me know now whether its alright? Thanks Ani
Looks OK to me, Joyce?
Ani: I think പങ്കെടുക്കുക or പങ്ക് ചേരുക will be a better translation for 'Get Involved'. What do you think? Other than that it looks fine to me.
Joyce: Thanks for the suggestion. Even I was not satisfied with the term I used. I have now changed it as പങ്ക് ചേരുക ‌‌and committed the translations. Pike: Have changed as Joyce has suggested. Please do the needful. Thanks Ani
Now everything looks great. Thanks Ani :-) Axel: Can you plz advise us what to do next?
Comment on attachment 309102 [details] [diff] [review] Patch for region.properties Ani, Joyce, this is a problem again. Ani, please update your tree with Joyce' changes, looking at the cvs history, you backed this fix out accidently.
Joyce: Have made some changes and updated accordingly with Pike's help. Pike: Thanks a lot Pike. Please do let me know if I should be doing anything else too. Really looking forward to have Malayalam (ml) included in Firefox. :) Best regards Ani
