I recently had this scenario: Local inbox: 1 unread IMAP inbox: 7 unread Saved search: 8 unread Dock icon badge: 2 unread. I'm not sure how to reproduce this, though.
My version string: version 2.0pre (20070319)
I think I understand the problem, perhaps. It seems the badge does not display unread mail. It displays 'new' mail. I would like it to display unread mail instead. This is tangentially related to bug 374549.

That bug appears to be a superset of my problems. I'll mark this one as a duplicate.
