378142 - Continually receive error message "There was an error truncating the Inbox" for mail filtered to folder

I continually receive error message, "There was an error truncating the Inbox after filtering a message to folder ….  You may need to shutdown Thunderbird and delete INBOX.msf."

I shutdown Thunderbird and delete the .msf file.  Restart Thunderbird and get the error again.  It seems to happen whenever an incoming email is sent to a filtered subfolder.  Sometimes the message is not properly formatted; the beginning and ending pointers are incorrect.  Messages are not consistently directed to the subfolder but are sometimes placed in the Inbox.

maybe you should try out if this problem is fixed in Thunderbird 2. In Thunderbird 2 a option for rebuilding the msf index is included (right click on the folder name -> Properties -> Rebuild Index).

ok i was getting this too on 1 .5 starting last wekk when my inbox reached 2.1 gig in size.

I just yesterday reported it as a reoccurence of the old 2 gig inbox limit.

I upgraded to 2 0 0 5 it happens there too but 2 0 0 5 doesn't report the error it just hangs.

when i went to 2 00 5 i hoped it would get my email but it won't either .

except in version 20 0 5 there is no error reporting. it just hangs at the first message saying downloading message 1 of xxx . ( i don't get the error truncating inbox on version 2005 like i did on version 1.5. )

my inbox is over 2 gig  (2 103 000 kb )

i think somehow the 2 gig limit has be reintroduced into the code.
Neither version 1.5 nor version 2 0 0 5 has been able to download a single email since this started last week.

UI have confirmed. Also it seems to be happening in version 2 0 0 5 becuase it is not able to download any email either after i upgraded however 2 0 0 5 doesn't give any error message - it just hangs on the first downloading message and never starts downloading message 2. This is what earlier versions did because they pop up a error message box about "error in truncating inbox" and you had to click ok to get it to go to the next messagwe where it would do the same thing.

version 2 0 0 5 just hangs on message 1 without giving you the error box.

not a total hang though because you can browse other folders however you can't  shut tbird down  (the process remains in win xp task manager and must be eventually closed from there. once let it run overnight trying to get the first message but even then it wouldn't get it.
and there is nothing wrong with the message it is trying to download. it does it on every message in the que.

anyone have a temporary work around while this is resolved? haven t been able to gwet email for a week. its backingup.

if i rename my whole inbox file to inbox old will tbird automatically create a new one for me that is 0k and start downloading my messages into it?

Also did version 2005 change any structure of the applications data folder because i want to replace all my mesage folder data there with my backup copy before I installed 2005 so it will start tryign to download the messages it screwed up on each time i tried to get this to work (or can i just delete popstat.dat to get it to download every message still on my server?).

please post here because I can't get email.
if anyone sent me anything such as notice of a new bug number i don't know and am still here.

This bug absolutely positively is still there.
I just proved it by making tbird work again after reducing my inbox to under 2 gig.

I just used a duplicate removal addon to get rid of many duplicate emails in my inbox and compacted it. When it got to 1 gig instead of 2.1 gig tbird version 2 0 0 5 is now happily downloading the 8000 messages that have accumulated on my server since last week when tbird stopped downloading as my inbox got to 2.1 gig in size.

This is a critical error.
it is in both version 2.0.0.5 which unfortunately gives you NO ERROR MESSAGE when it can't truncate the large inbox unlike previous version which had this error but at least told you it was a problem with the inbox.

why did version 2.0.05 lose the error reporting?

This is a confirmed bug! However, there was no sign of that when I was working on TB 1.5. Now several day ago I upgraded to 2.0.0.6 and I keep getting this message since and on.

I don't have the database as big as 2G but the message keeps on annoying me every time a message is being filtered to anither folder.
