without lightning installed, you can usually (thunderbird has a bug or two also) use tab to move between the folder tree, the messages list, the message, etc.. Once lightning is installed, Lightning's pane is the next stop in tab order after the folder tree, and once there tab only loops through calendar sections and never returns to the folder tree (or the message list or message, of course, since they're now invisible)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Focus any part of the calendar UI
2. Hit tab as often as you like.

Actual Results:  
Poor soul, you'll never make it back to your mail.

Expected Results:  
The mail folder tree can still be reached by tab.

Right, this problem will be gone once bug 371916 has landed. But we should leave this one open until then in order to verify that it has been resolved as a side effect.

Bug 371916 has been fixed some time ago. But I can't find a way to switch back to Mail Mode using keyboard only in Lightning 0.7pre (2007090609).

Switching back to mail mode is accel+1 (for calendar and tasks this is accel+3 and accel+4 respectively).
In mail mode with today pane enabled I don't see any problem with tab not returning to the folder tree.
Inability to tab to the mode toolbar is by design, right ? - so this bug can be closed.

Switched to Evolution when I switched from WinXP to Ubuntu, but I'm not loving Apple Mail on the macbook, so I'll install Thunderbird there with Lightning and test shortly.

I installed Thunderbird 3.0a1 and setup accounts before noting that it wasn't supported for 0.8, and now I can't find a Lightning build that will install on it. I don't want to make this a tech support forum, but if anyone knows how I can get an appropriate Lightning build to install, I'll give it a shot. Otherwise I'll take you guys' word for it that it's fixed. Evolution handles my enormous email archives so much better than Thunderbird that now I'm running Ubuntu on my main system my need for Thunderbird/Lightning is diminished.

Lightning releases support only Thunderbird 2.0.0.*. For Thunderbird 3 there don't exists supported and tested Lightning builds. You could only test some random nightly test build <http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/nightly/> but there is no warranty that they work at all.

accel+ switches to first tab (currently mail) and if you are in calendar tab you can use tab to go to the tab bar and then change the tab with the cursor key.
