Popup notification window is not accessible.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch orca and thunderbird, switch to thunderbird Inbox folder.
2. Send a new message to current mail account ang receive new mail.
3. There will be a notification window pop up at the bottom of the screen.

Expected result:
This pop up window should be visible for orca users.

Actual result:
It's not accessible for orca.

This bug can be found with thunderbird 20070516 trunk build.
Was it accessible in a previous version? (2 or other 3pre)and now just stopped? or was never there?

Does it get better in latest trunk 3.0a2pre this week ?
No, it is not accessible from 2 to 3.0a2pre.

btw, would be nice to have "Accessibility" component for "Thunderbird" product because I'm not sure anyone among of us watches this component.

Marco, could you investigate if it's core or thunderbird specific issue?

better "Disability Access" like "Firefox" product has.
This sounds more like two separate problems:
1. an XBL binding issue. There are accessible roles that can be exposed for such notifications. However, the XBL binding is made up of hbox etc. elements we don't know what to do with.
2. A keyboard nav issue. There is no way to get to these elements with the keyboard.

The problem is also that these tend to timeout after a while. So interacting may be difficult.

On Windows, Thunderbird also puts an icon in the system tray that *is* accessible. I know from past experience that GNOME has a general problem with their notification area on Linux, so if Thunderbird does the same there, this part is most likely not be solvable by Thunderbird.
We don't use the native notification on linux, yet. The notifier is pretty similar to the windows one.

This is no longer correct? bug 478463?

Is there anything left to do?

We have the native notifications, but they are off by default atm, see bug 1162788.

So what is the action needed?

I have no idea. But we use native notifications by default now on linux (and mac)

Flags: needinfo?(mkmelin+mozilla)

Then I'd think this is no longer valid
