Sometimes I am disconnected from the net and I bring TB to the front.
It puts up an alert about the fact that it cannot contact a server. Then it gives me another alert. And another alert. And another. How many of these do we need?
I would suggest that we actually need none of them. An alert should be used very sparingly. If I have TB configured to talk to 2 mail servers and 2 news servers, each has its own "folder" in the folder list. There could be a red X over that folder. We could not multiply interrupt the user.
How does the accessibility UI deal with this excessive alert behavior? I bet it is a bother.

Ray, I wonder how much of this bug is really a dupe of Bug 359134?
On windows, if you lose your internet connection, thunderbird automatically (and silently) pops you into offline mode so you don't get any alerts. When the link comes back online we resync. I find it works really well and is seamless.
I think there's an open bug for adding the network link service for the mac.
