RFE - Full MAPI Implementation. I understand that N6 will be have Simple MAPI fully implemented. I've heard that Full MAPI will never be implemented. However, we have some important customers that try to use mailing features integrated into MS Project, Access, etc. with Messenger and are unable to do so. I think, but don't know for sure, that this is because of the absence of Full MAPI; and the reason for no Full MAPI is because of it's proprietory nature. It should be feasable to use use Messenger with MS Project, Access, etc.
There's no way we will be getting to full mapi support in this version. if an outside contributor wants to jump in and take a look that would be awesome! I thought FULL MAPI was a dying beast anyway and that simple MAPI is all that anyone uses anymore. Maybe I'm mistaken but i know integration with the apps you mentioned can be done using simple mapi in 4.7 no?

I would think that Simple MAPI would have to be done first :-) It's currently not being done in Netscape 6. bug 11057.
Why is this Netscape confidential? Any reason to not open it up?

We have a number of third-party applications that rely on a MAPI-enabled mail client to send out bulk mails to subsets of our community. Many of these need better support for SimpleMAPI than is present in Tbird 1.5, and that's not even mentioning ExtendedMAPI... If Tbird can't do this, we'll probably be forced to move these users to Outlook, which will pull their entire departments to Outlook.
i have many tools which need access to my outlook contacts, none of them work if i set a mozilla product as default email manager. specially annyoing are any esto cti software and the hp scanjet wizard, they all complain about mapi then.
How valid is this still?

(In reply to comment #11) > How valid is this still? An what are the major differences between simple and FUll mapi
Well, I answered my own questions month ago: yes. (In reply to comment #12) > (In reply to comment #11) > > How valid is this still? > > An what are the major differences between simple and FUll mapi Full MAPI has a lot more involved API, as it is (to my knowledge) pretty much the core implementation of Outlook.
Please, add full MAPI support, you even have ready implementation - see libmapi and libmapi++ - https://github.com/openchange/openchange from OpenChange project http://www.openchange.org/
I'm not an expert here, but this might be useful too, even for the current Thunderbird users: http://davmail.sourceforge.net/
Both of the projects you have mentioned are GPL, and therefore cannot be used in Thunderbird code.
Removing myslef on all the bugs I'm cced on. Please NI me if you need something on MailNews Core bugs from me.

This is not the same thing as bug 128284. The latter bug is about (in modern terms) implementing the access via the EWS protocol implementation. This bug is about providing an implementation of the Extended MAPI interface.

(It is arguable if this should be marked WONTFIX, though--we're unlikely to ever implement it due to lack of resources).
