Many spell checkers include options to ignore words in uppercase, words containing digits, and words that are part of a URL.
This is extremely useful for people who often use codes in uppercase or that contain digits. Examples are post codes in certain countries that contain letters or are all uppercase.
Please would you consider adding these three features as options to the Thunderbird spell checker:
1. Ignore words in uppercase
2. Ignore words that contain digits
3. Ignore words that are part of a hyperlink (http, https, mailto, etc)
By making these as options, people may choose to turn them on or off as they please.
Thank you
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Create a new email with uppercase words, words with digits, or hyperlinks.
Examples:
GHSC
5nf
rtq4
fruitcakeman.com (when converted to a link with menu options Insert, Link)
Actual Results:
Run the spell checker either manually or by sending the email.
Expected Results:
As described in the description, this is a feature request, not a bug.
As described in the description, if the feature options were to be turned off, the spell checker would mark the example words as invalid; if turned on,it would ignore those ones.

I'm making this the "add options to spell checker" bug for DUPing and
dependencies.
Other suggestions from previous bugs:
Ignore capitalized words (e.g. England)
Ignore single letters (e.g. b)
Ignore words in capitals only (e.g. ASAP)
Ignore words with mixed case (e.g. TextPad)
Ignore words with numbers (e.g. Win98)
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Component: Message Compose Window → Spelling checker
Ever confirmed: true
Product: Thunderbird → Core
QA Contact: message-compose → spelling-checker
Version: unspecified → Trunk

Isn't this a dupe of Bug 128122?

No, it's quite different.

I don't understand why this hasn't been implemented - as the OP said, it's a standard feature in just about every other spellchecker in the world, and it's so stupid having to add letter string like "nd" (from 2nd) to the custom dictionary, or to have to add urls to the custom dictionary - so much so that, like the OP, I'm considering turning off the spellchecker completely - and yet TB is such a well-designed application overall, so why is such a glaring flaw allowed to persist through so many versions?

I am kind of wondering the same thing? It's 2020 and still this is an issue? What would it take to get this bug resolved?
