I suspect this is a won't fix. However it is a function that has been dropped from Firefox 3. There is no way to set a user selected bookmarks toolbar folder. In Firefox 2 this was possible by selecting a folder and in the view menu selecting set as bookmarks toolbar folder.
Flags: blocking-firefox3?
This isn't needed, IMO. We're not going to move roots around, and this wasn't exactly a major feature in Fx2.

Agreed, bookmark handling hasn't been a major, or at least not stellar, feature of FF2, yes, so why not remove it wholesale from FF4, with FF3 being an intermediate step? It would also make FF easier to maintain, and should security or other problems crop up in user-installed extensions, it's entirely the user's fault, too. Sounds almost like a win-win situation to me...
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
