Spun off from bug 404542 comment 9.

When a user decides to sort their bookmarks a certain way, we should remember it. I haven't decided (cc'ing Alex for input here) whether that should be per folder (my instinct is no) or across sessions (instinct is yes).

I personally think that per folder causes users more annoyance than benefit.

I think this should stick across sessions.

When tags, history, downloads and other top level folders allow for multiple views, we are going to want to persist those changes as well.  For instance, if users always want to view their tags in a column view.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
