new message indicator should model behavior of unread messages, i.e. parent folder of a subfolder with unread messages turns bold when the folder is collapsed. likewise, the parent folder with a subfolder which contains new messages (and has a red asterisk) should itself have a red asterisk when parent is collapsed. (note: account has the red asterisk)
may be related to bug 383598, bug 312610.

I'm doing a full review of new messages, and I hope to look at this issue as part of that review.
I'd like to see this problem fix too. I have on my Imap account some filter on the server that redirect messages in a subfolder. If the parent folder is not expanded, I cannot see if it contain new message or not. I have recently discover 2 months of new message "hide" in a subfolder by this way :-( Lotus Note as this feature and it is really usefull.
