Allow turning off bookmark searching in address bar
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b4) Gecko/2008030714 Firefox/3.0b4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b4) Gecko/2008030714 Firefox/3.0b4 Please make sure the bookmarks are provided with option, So that when you type the URL(We donot need to show all the sites in my bookmarks some are not to be shown to others). Please make sure you provide an option for it. Simply bring up all the bookmarks without toggle option to disable it, is really not good. It is not safe for me...Security is not available....Also, when i try to right click and copy a content it doesnot show the option to COPY OR PASTE OR CUT.....The screen is blank and Mozilla eats alot of memory.....(too hungry guy) Thank you Ganesh.KB Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Just type the URL, you and you can see all the URL 2.Need option in managing the bookmarks to disable it 3. Actual Results: IT should not show all the bookmarks Expected Results: It should not show all the bookmarks It should have option to hide the URLs which or not meant for others. If you need a QC may be i can chip in....HEEEE HEEEE
I fail to see why this should remain security sensitive. Anyway, if you set History to 0 days in Tools->Options->Privacy, doesn't that address your issue?
(In reply to comment #1) > I fail to see why this should remain security sensitive. > Anyway, if you set History to 0 days in Tools->Options->Privacy, doesn't that > address your issue? No, because we'll still show bookmarks in the dropdown. Some people don't like having their bookmarks exposed by typing in a URL, apparently.
Please confirm and update your comments..... If you have proof of saying disabling the History will not show up bookmarks in the URL. Please prove it with screen shots. I can prove it with screenshots but i am not ready to expose my URL again..... It does not remove bookmarks even after setting history to 0. Thank you Ganesh.KB
Ganesh, sorry, no, I was wrong. Bookmarks are still being shown after setting history to 0. This was basically what bug 393570 was about (adding bookmarks to the url bar autocomplete), which was fixed by bug 394038. Apparently, this might be fixed by bug 395161.
Martijn, Cool thank you for the update and hopefully it will be addressed. I thank you again for giving more details about the same issue. Keep in touch buddy Ganesh.KB

It wouldn't really be fixed by 395161, though I suppose we could add something to that patch which allows a mode where we always restrict to history only? This doesn't block Firefox 3. If people want to hide things, they shouldn't be bookmarking them. Also, this is a dupe of bug 422151.

More likely a duplicate of bug 395161 then.
Mr.Mike, Thank you for your suggestions, the requirement from people to people will vary. If you really happy keeping your credit card outside your desk though no one knows the security number. It is not safe, when you have a secured site in your bookmark and if you have select the password option to remember it, then it will autofill the username and password. Hope this will give you a clear picture why people want to handle them secured. Thank you Ganesh.KB

(In reply to comment #9) > But in that case, wouldn't it be better not to bookmark sites to bank logins, not to save bank account passwords, and not to store history of these sites?
Why has this bug been reopened?
Hi I donot find any reason to have bookmark without having option of blocking the sites that you donot want to reveil. Also you need to have a check box option whether you like to show the bookmarks in the address bar or not. Earlier we didnot have issues, i would love to have them in the same way. I believe people around are also looking for it.... Mr.Damian, do you have any worries or finding it difficult when this is reopened when no solution is provided for the same.... Ganesh.KB
I don't see that you want anything more than what is being asked in bug 422151. In which case, this should be marked as a duplicate of that, as not to cause confusion. I'm still not quite sure how this is an issue, as it's not possible to "hide" bookmarks from being found on a profile anyway. At least change the title of this bug to something more descriptive, like "Allow turning off bookmark searching in address bar".
Hope you will be happy now, i donot find any change in using this, do you feel they will take this in for a simple reason the title of the bug is being changed... Thank you anyway Ganesh.KB http://dexter-laboratory.blogspot.com/
Summary: Loading complete bookmarks → Allow turning off bookmark searching in address bar
(In reply to comment #7) > If people want to hide things, they shouldn't be > bookmarking them. I *know* what I have bookmarks of and where they are, so I don't need to search for them using the address bar. The current behaviour of the address bar is just cluttering my searches for addresses I didn't bookmark. This is very annoying.
Bug 424557 would make it so that you could by default search only history by setting the history special search keyword to "" (empty).
Depends on: 424557
does this bug cover a request for an option to keep bookmarks out of the urlbar dropdown, or is there a separate one for that?

Duplicate of bug: 424557
Fwiw, I don't see how this is a duplicate of bug 424557, it seems more like a duplicate of bug 395161 to me.
(In reply to comment #19) > Fwiw, I don't see how this is a duplicate of bug 424557, it seems more like a > duplicate of bug 395161 to me. > This bug is asking for bookmark searching to be completely turned off in awesome bar, bug 424557 is trying to implement it so by default only urls are searched (or only history or only bookmarks etc..) so it's possible to make it so bookmark searching is completely turned off. Bug 395161 is asking for there to be syntax to only search particular items (history, bookmarks, etc...) That's how I understand it, please change things if I'm horribly confused on the situation.
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
