The following are recommended for bn_IN:
wikipedia -> bn.wikipedia.org
Hype Machine -> musicyogi.com
craigslist -> clickindia.com
yelp.com -> blah.burrp.com
facebook -> orkut.com

runa - thanks!
on musicyogi.com -- it seems more of a shopping site (while focused on indian music which is cool) is there anything that's more community oriented like by the community for the community supporting local musicians?
clickindia.com -- looks cool. do you know if you can post in other languages besides english? i've sent them email letting them know we'll be connecting to them so please go ahead
blah.burrp.com -- also cool and same question (in other languages?). and i've sent them email
orkut.com -- is there an orkut.com for india then? and in bengali?

Hi Mic,
clickindia.com = I am not sure about clickindia.com. all the content looks to be in english.
musicyogi.com = an alternative could be "http://www.jhankarbeats.com/". However, its still pretty much threadbare and there does'nt seem to be a comprehensive site like "Hype Machine" yet.
blah.burrp.com = supports content in utf-8, hence bengali content can be supported. not sure if any of the user's have done it yet. i might try.
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
orkut.com = the bengali interface is available for the user, if he/she chooses to set it as a display language from their account preferences.

hey Runa
clickindia.com - let's go with that
i think jhankarbeats.com is a better choice - it's more user content oriented and musicyogi seems to be optimized only for IE (i tried to register to provide feedback on music and it gave me that type of message)
blah.burrp.com - ok
orkut.com - ok
so make those changes and shall we close this bug? :)

reopening, http://www.jhankarbeats.com/ hasn't had any content update since 2007 and their last announcement on their blog dates back to 2006 and visiting the site, I got a couple of error pages redirecting to their Plesk install. I am not confortable having it as something we want to promote.

Mic,
As of now I do not see any alternatives. Most music related blogs are individual blogs or portals for illegal music downloads. none are nowhere near to hypemachine. The other option i can see is going back to MusicYogi.com as it is a legal music merchandising portal and is also popular for promoting independent musicians. Will that work?

what if we chose something else other than music - like film?
i just don't think the commercial aspect it right for what we're trying to do. it's not that commerce is bad, just that we're trying to promote user oriented collaborative sites.
any ideas?

Hi Mic,
Nothing seems to work. Btw, can I replace Hypemachine with a non-commercial, volunteer driven internet radio station? Radioverve.com seems to fit the bill and is pretty popular as well.
Thanks

sounds good on radioverve.com thanks :)!

Thanks Mic. This means that the text needs to be rewritten for this resource.
Suggestion:
"Listen to exciting new sounds on the fastest growing interet radio station dedicated to independent Indian musicians."
