Details

(Whiteboard: [gs])

The document defines a way to persistently store named IMAP (RFC 3501) searches on the server. Such named searches can be subsequently referenced in a SEARCH or any other command that accepts a search criteria as a parameter. We already have saved searches and it will be good if we can store them on server.
Product: Core → MailNews Core
Now this is proposed standard as RFC 5466
Summary: Store named IMAP searches on the server → Store named IMAP searches on the server - rfc5466

Thunderbird's locally managed virtual (Saved Search) folders are useful for local mail, but if, like me, you live in the IMAP world, managing these server side would be *huge*. New ones would automatically show up (just like new user created folders) on all clients, and if the server supports it (ie, dovecot), they can also be indexed, so they would be very fast. This is now high on my list of enhancement requests I'd like to see implemented.
Severity: normal → S3
