Per bug 450724 comment 65 it'd be nice to have some kind of bubble UI around the addresses in message header view.

If you change Thunderbird like this, please consider adding a 1/2 second delay (or so) when the mouse enters the headers pane before the bubbles start bubbling.  Otherwise I think this would be distracting when moving the mouse from one part of the screen to another when the user isn't interested in the headers pane but the mouse happens to pass over it.

Just want to note (regarding popups that appear from these bubbles) that mailing list addresses should be recognized as different addresses and have a special set of popup actions.  see also bug 29041

Bug 450724 comment 62 actually describes the UI in question, but the image doesn't take into account the dropdown arrow in its current position; not sure if that's an issue or not.

Is bubbling desirable when the widget gets focus via keyboard?

I'd think yes. when <tab>ing through contacts, bubbling on the focused contact widget would help a lot to make keyboard focus more discoverable in that area. The correct way to do this would be to have both dotted border and blue blubble background when a contact has keyboard focus. iow, true bubbles only on hover, and bubbles plus dotted border for the contact that currently has keyboard focus (by clicking or <tab>). So user can clearly tell from the layout where keyboard action like <context menu> key or shift+f10 will go to.
btw, this is normal behaviour as seen in any other kind of list where you can move focus around (in windows xp), e.g. when you move focus within a list of file objects in windows explorer, or entries of dropdown lists etc.

Wayne, I think it's still open because of my comment #4, which requests that keyboard/tab-focussed email addresses should also bubble, which they currently don't on WinXP Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091219 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0.1pre
So in a way bubbles UI is not yet fully implemented.

The message reader is being largely rebuilt for version 115. So this issue is will not be fixed for the current version 102.

When 115 becomes available in July please file a new bug if the problem exists in version 115. You can also evalute the changes in 3-4 weeks by trying a beta build.
