So the node being passed to RenderNode is bogus somehow.... We're crashing because the range that selects the node has no startParent, I would guess, but I have no idea why that happens. Of course d&d is just completely broken on trunk today, at least after the first drag, so I can't reproduce. :(

I'm certain this is a dupe of bug 454324. I'll mark the other one blocking.

I was also wondering that. It doesn't seem right so reopening.

This bug is just about a new way to hit code that was buggy long before that. Bug 454324 is about that code being buggy.
Depends on: 454324
Using both Win XP Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b1pre) Gecko/20081002 Minefield/3.1b1pre and Win 2K I crash 100% of the time as soon as I move any two tabs. I agree with dbaron that this should block the beta release. I haven't hit this crash using my Mac nightly at all, but I thought tchung said he crashed on mac.
Changing platform to all. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454324#c7, happened on a mac.

(In reply to comment #8) > This bug is just about a new way to hit code that was buggy long before that. > Bug 454324 is about that code being buggy. Based on this comment, would it be safe to dupe this bug, and flag the other one for blocking1.9.1 and blocking 1.9.0.4?
I think so.
This blocks beta as it crashes on a common operation / breaks tab drag & drop on Windows. (In reply to comment #10) > Changing platform to all. See > https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454324#c7, happened on a mac. I haven't been able to reproduce on OSX at all, but can easily do so on Windows. Anyone know why?

Is there any reason why we need the new drag and drop API for beta (other, I suppose, than to find bugs like this)? If not, can we just back out bug 456048 for now?
(In reply to comment #12) > I think so. I actually don't think so, as this bug is about the fact that drag & drop of tabs in the tabstrip, which is what blocks beta. The code being buggy is a blocker for final release, but this specific bug can be fixed with a backout of bug 456048. I suppose ultimately I don't care, if we think we can get a fix to the buggy code better, but the tabstrip drag & drop is the blocking issue, regardless of cause (the fact that we changed tabstrip drag & drop to use the new API / the fact that the new API is buggy)

Has anyone tested the patch in bug 454324 to see if it fixes this problem? We don't want to take the D&D API patch later than we have to, and backing it out is not without risk.
That patch is wallpaper in presshell over what looks to me like serious bustage elsewhere. If we need to take it we will, but I'd still like to understand how said bustage arises. I agree that said understanding need not block beta, and this bug as filed should.
I have found that Drag&Drop of a tab into the Bookmarks-sidebar will also initiate the crash. 1. New Profile 2. Open Bookmarks sidebar 3. Create a folder (any name) 4. Open a tab - drag that tab to the new folder - experience the crash. http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c72a7673-9167-11dd-a233-0013211cbf8a?p=1 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b1pre) Gecko/20081003 Minefield/3.1b1pre ID:20081003034424

Ran into this again on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b1pre) Gecko/20081003 Minefield/3.1b1pre Here's the crash report: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/a6fa181c-9191-11dd-af3f-001a4bd43ed6 my str is not consistent though. i have jit enabled, and i've also logged into a secure site (ebay). Simply grabbing the tab and dragging it to another position on the tab bar generated the crash.
(In reply to comment #22) > http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/a6fa181c-9191-11dd-af3f-001a4bd43ed6 Is it the same thing or a different bug? I hit the same crash by re-ordering tabs inside the tab-strip. This turns up on Ubuntu Linux 8.04 as well. Breakpad at: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/7b0c74cc-9054-11dd-9e03-001cc45a2ce4
> Is it the same thing or a different bug? Same bug. Seriously, there's no need for more breakpad reports here. We know why this is crashing. Bug 454324 has the fix.

no more crashes, but now dragging the tab causes the page to reload every time it is dropped. is this intended behavior? new bug?
