If you forward inline, we put subject, sender, date, in the message body, but we also put the reference headers, which is not something normal users want to see.
Yes, would be good to remove that (also suggested in bug 244432 comment #12) as it doesn't add any information useful for the user. Similar to the References header when replying, I could imagine that this information would be retained in a References header of the forwarding message, with the Message-ID of the forwarded message added to that list. Btw, shouldn't this be moved to MailNews Core, Composition?

if we're not forwarding a newsgroup message, don't include the references header.
