Some newsgroups sometimes indicate there are new messages. Clicking on the newsgroup (or space or n) jumps to it, but then no messages are shown. See attached screenshot.
I think this is due to marking a lot of threads as ignored and it only marks those as read once the newsgroup is selected.
A simple workaround, which solves the problem temporarily is to manualy mark the newsgroup as read.

Notice the newsgroup is selected (blue), but no messages show up and it remains in bold and shows the (1). This can also happen with more than one message, the number stays the same.
I am sorry for not being able to provide steps to reproduce.

This problem is known and a dupe of a dependency of bug 71728, most likely bug 79130. I see this on a reliable basis, I just keep forgetting to actually check to make sure that what I think is happening and what is happening are the same.
