This bug will be the status bar part of the whole activity manager feature.

I think we've pretty much decided that for Thunderbird 3 we'll be going the half-way stage of hooking up the activity manager to the existing status bar. Therefore removing this off the blocking list, and adding bug 489588.

Marcel (assignee), are you going to pick this up again?

For starters, what if we just added some (iconic) link into status bar for opening activity manager? Sounds simple enough with big benefit - ux-papercut candidate!

Could you elaborate more on this?
The specs got no further than https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Interactive_Status_Bar The blog post is no longer available
Hey!! I would like to work on this, but I need a starting point and a history of what has already been worked upon in this enhancement feature, and what more needs to be added.
(In reply to Aruna from comment #10) > Hey!! > I would like to work on this, but I need a starting point and a history of > what has already been worked upon in this enhancement feature, and what more > needs to be added. We'd welcome your help in coding this. Nothing has been coded. And all of the relevant comments, bugs and reference URLs are cited here in this bug. If you want more info on how to get started, suggest you visit IRC and ask https://chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.mozilla.org&channel=%23maildev (In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #9) > ... > The blog post is no longer available But visible at https://web.archive.org/web/20160426141003/http://clarkbw.net/blog/2008/06/04/activity-is-the-new-download/
I had some queries which I wanted to clarify before proceeding with this. The status bar, that is to be worked upon is for the mail? Or is it common for all- chat, mail, newsgroup etc? if it is for the mail then the changes have to be made in comm-central/mail/themes/linux/mail? If not, then where are the changes to be made?
Can you shed some light on what kind of features are expected to be there in the status bar, to give me a headstart?
(In reply to Aruna from comment #13) > Can you shed some light on what kind of features are expected to be there in > the status bar, to give me a headstart? Suggest you first look at the old documents and the advice you got on IRC, then post a proposed design and attach a screen shot mockup, and ask paenglab for feedback https://web.archive.org/web/20160426141003/http://clarkbw.net/blog/2008/06/04/activity-is-the-new-download/ for example was pretty specific and has many comments attached to it.

Hi! I'm in a group of 3 students looking to contribute as a 3 month project, and this caught my attention. I'm new to Open Source, and this looks interesting. Can I get any more details? Is the issue still active?
