We need a few strings to be translated into all the languages Firefox 3 exists in. These strings will be used in the dialog box that will be used to warn Firefox 3 users that they should upgrade to Firefox 3.5.

Here is the page on the staging server (access with your LDAP account):
https://en-gb.www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-GB/firefox/3.5/details/

This reference file is the one in the URL field of this bug.

You can either update the file in SVN if you have commit rights, in this case put the revision number of your translation in the comments of this bug, or you can translate the file and attach it to this bug and I will commit it for you.

For right to left languages like Hebrew, Arabic and Persian, don't forget to change the value of the dir="ltr" attribute to dir="rtl".

The locales affected are:

af, ar, be, bg, bn-IN, ca, cs, da, de, el, en-GB, eo, es-AR, es-ES, eu, fi, fr, fy-NL, ga-IE, gl, gu-IN, he, hi-IN, hu, id, is, it, ja, ka, kn, ko, ku, lt, lv, mk, mn, mr, nb-NO, nl, nn-NO, oc, pa-IN, pl, pt-BR, pt-PT, ro, ru, si, sk, sl, sq, sr, sv-SE, te, th, tr, uk, zh-CN, zh-TW

As usual, save your file in UTF-8 in a text editor and when attaching files to
this bug, indicate that they have a text/plain Mime type.

Thanks!
What is meant by "tear-off tabs"?
tear-off tabs is the possibility to turn an opened tab into an independent window with the mouse (click on the tab and drag it, it will become a new window)
Is there an official translation for this feature?
> Is there an official translation for this feature?

you should see that with your localization team and especially the Firefox localizer in case he already has a translation in mind. Many localization teams share a common glossary of Mozilla terms so for German you should ping Henrik an Abdulbadir who may give you pointers and if you don't have a translation for that word yet, well, it's a good topic of internal discussion within your community ;)
s/Abdulbadir/Abdulkadir/g
Can't say "tear-off tabs" is the strongest argument to upgrade. Also it is very hard to translate, since "tear-off" seems a typical en-US expression with little to no local equivalents.
Maybe the canvas tag is a nicer argument, maybe with a link to http://blog.mozbox.org/post/2009/04/12/Firefox-35%3A-a-new-experiment-with-Canvas-Video.
Attached file Romanian translation
wim, the canvas tag dates back to Firefox 1.5. The text is what marketing has decided to promote in this box, there will be many other ways to promote other aspects of 3.5 but this is not the place to discuss that, bug #483058 or the #marketing channel on IRC would be better, this bug is only for the translation.
Sorry, I meant the video and audio elements.
Well, we will give it a shot.

Is there any reason the localized versions should contain a different message
than the en-US one?

How much vertical space is there? My translation takes up a couple more lines
than the en-GB text.

>Is there any reason the localized versions should contain a different message

Yes, there is a play on words on the English title which is not translatable in most id not all locales. More generally, the purpose of localization is to get a clear and efficient document, not to strictly reproduce the original text which is more akin to simple localization.

>How much vertical space is there? My translation takes up a couple more lines

I don't know as it is dependent on the OS/OS settings/OS fonts but a scrollbar will appear if it is too long, plus I will make per locale CSS adjustments when we will QA the boxes.

P.S. I suppose that the xml:lang="en-GB" and lang="en-GB" attributes at the beginning of the file should be changed according to each locale.

Yes, I forgot to mention it

BTW that https page has an invalid certificate.
Damjan, just add the site to your list of exceptions. Look at the URL field of this bug to get the source file.

You didn't mentioned dir=ltr in the source. I will place it in the <html> tag for Hebrew.

As far as I remember, the application translation don't have this term currently.

The feature is similar to Dynamic Tabs in Google Chrome.

You do if you have an SVN account (and I see you do). If you don't know your LDAP password, file a bug under mozilla.org :: Server Operations to get it reset.

Hey, thanks for the quickest (less than 2 minutes) ever response.

I will have to file a bug now then.

Thanks again!

Anas,

After getting my LDAP account working, I got the access to https://en-gb.www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-GB/firefox/3.5/details/ , where I found two messages differ from the index.html you uploaded.

In URL, "Time for an Upgrade!" while in attachment "Think Fast!" AND
In URL, "Get Firefox 3.5" while in attachment "Upgrade to Firefox 3.5".

Now, I have translated the en-US attachment and uploaded. Let me know, whether attachment has got correct messages or the URL provided in the first comment.

Thanks!
Ankit

Well, the difference between the two is the difference between 'en_US' and 'en_GB" styles.

I fancy it would not be a big deal if you chose any one of the two.

Just a reminder, the reference file is linked in the *URL* field of this bug and we are using a slightly different title because there is a double meaning in the en-US title that is not reproducable in the translation, remember that we use en-GB as the stable neutral English source here, not en-US. Thanks
